"The M12 Force Application Vehicle, better known as the "Warthog", is a highly mobile and adaptable platform serving the UNSC. Famed for its toughness and sturdy design, stories about Hogs surviving numerous tours of active combat duty abound. But none is more well known than the tale of Daedalus. Near the beginning of the Covenant War, the UNSC frigate Daedalus went down in atmosphere over the planet Galgalia, smashing into the irradiated world's high gravity surface. The ship's molten wreckage was scattered for hundreds of miles, an unsurvivable event. And yet, four Warthogs had, in fact, survived the impact. Marines from the motor pool had buckled themselves into the Hog seats as the frigate plummeted to the surface. Strapped to the ship's deck, incredibly, the vehicles remained intact. Due to the security restrictions of the Cole Protocol, the Marines would wait months for aid. To survive, they used the Hogs to desalinate water and search for food, and they even programmed their radios to broadcast the distress signal that eventually led to their rescue."

The 2554 AMG Transport Dynamics M12 Warthog FAV is a fictional vehicle from the Halo series.

It appears in Forza Motorsport 4 as an Autovista-only car.

Synopsis[]

The Warthog FAV (Force Application Vehicle) is the joint light tactical ground vehicle of choice by the United Nations Space Command.

It is an all-wheel drive, all-terrain utility vehicle capable of going over steep landscapes without trouble. At the front, the hood hides a 12 liter hydrogen-injected internal combustion engine that makes 720 hp (537 kW) and 855 ft·lb (1160 N·m), mixed with an automatic infinitely variable transmission. The hydrogen fuel is burned at extreme temperatures with a synthetic carbon/silicon catalyst for even better fuel consumption.

Also featured is a Graf/Hauptman solar/saline actuator, capable of converting up to 12 liters of fresh, backish, or salt water into hydrogen on the go. Detritus from the process is compacted on board and the crew manually disposes of it. The Warthog has a maximum range of 490 miles (790 km) before refuels, a range easily prolongable by adding any container capable of holding liquid.

The 2554 model carries a SLED searchlight, has "M-12" inscribed on the steering wheel, uses a black-colored version of the UNSC insignia used during the Human-Covenant War, has the words "UNSC" and "STEP" written in military alphabet stencil on its body, houses a yellow battery in the hood, and features an antenna. It also has a side rack holding something. In the seating area this one has brown chairs with bars to reinforce them, and a health pack between the seats of this variant.

Unlike other models using this chassis, this one uses a duel spring suspension to keep the vehicle stable in different environments. This model also is darker than other models. It is very similar to the 2557 M12 FAV featured in Halo 4, from the overall design to the M46 Light Anti-Aircraft Gun on the back.

Autovista[]

In Autovista, the player can access eleven informational buttons and the UNSC symbol. Instead of Jeremy Clarkson, Cortana does the narrations for the vehicle. The player can reveal the Warthog's engine and flip open the side compartments.

Trivia[]

  • A civilian model named the M12S Warthog CST is featured in Forza Horizon 3 and all subsequent Horizon titles.
  • It is also the only "armed" car in the series, hence its turret-mounted machine gun.
  • This car features independent four-wheel steering, which would mean changes to the physics beyond game limitations, which is the reason why it remains as an Autovista-exclusive car.
  • A narration by Jeremy Clarkson appears in a Gamespot trailer of the Warthog for Forza Motorsport 4.[1]
