"Built on the same chassis and with many of the same components of the Mazda Miata, the Abarth 124 Spider takes that solid base and spices it up with Italian flair. This variant has the most horsepower available and an optimized suspension. The car’s bulging lines beg to cut their way through the wind with the top down. Under the long hood is the treat that separates the 124 from its Japanese sibling. Whether you actually find the turbo in the engine bay or note the distinguishing sound of it spooling up as you throttle up, the forced induction is what makes this little convertible a real treat. Like the Miata, this is a car you can drive at 100 percent all day and have loads of fun in the process. So, what are you waiting for?"—Official description[1]
The 2017 Abarth 124 Spider - abbreviated as "Fiat Spider 124" and also known as "Fiat 124 Spider Abarth" - is a rear-wheel drive open-top sport compact by Abarth and FIAT[2].
It appears in Forza Motorsport 7 as part of the Samsung QLED Car Pack and in all subsequent main series titles.
It appears in Forza Horizon 5 as part of Series 24 and in Forza Motorsport (2023) as a Spotlight car in Update 4.0.
Synopsis[]
The 124 Spider was first introduced in 2016 as a homage to the 50th anniversary of the 1966-1985 124 Sport Spider. The Abarth is the performance model of its range, designed with typical Abarth design elements such as a matte black hood, and upgraded to boast a 124 hp per liter ratio.[3]
Sharing its platform with the 2016 Mazda MX-5, the 124 Spider Abarth is a front-engined, rear-wheel drive roadster, although it was designed with specifications different from the MX-5. Its engine, for instance, is a 1.4 liter turbocharged inline-four, as opposed to the 2 liter naturally aspirated engine in the MX-5.[3] Outputting 165 hp (123 kW) and 184 ft·lb (249 N·m) of torque, the Abarth is more powerful than the MX-5, which results in a higher top speed than the latter car.
However, as it also weighs 167 lb (76 kg) more[4] and has a front weight percentage of 54%, which is 50% for the MX-5, the Abarth also has a slightly lower handling rating than the MX-5. As a result, the Abarth is more geared towards speed than the lighter and more handling-focused MX-5.
