The 2018 Aston Martin #97 AMR Vantage GTE - abbreviated as "#97 Vantage GTE" - is a GTE race car by Aston Martin.

It appears in Forza Motorsport (2023) as part of Update 11.0 as a reward for completing the Road to Race Tour.

Synopsis[]

Based on the Aston Martin Vantage, the AMR Vantage GTE was unveiled in November 2017 at a reveal event in London alongside its road-going counterpart. Serving as a replacement for the Vantage GT2, the car had its racing debut at the opening round of the 2018-19 World Endurance Championship (WEC) season, the 6 Hours of Spa. The car competed in both LMGTE classes in the WEC and the LMGTE class in the Le Mans Series (LMS) until the classes in each series were replaced by the LMGT3 class for the 2024 season, with the GTE being replaced by the Evo version of the Vantage GT3.

The car was developed by Aston Martin and its racing division Aston Martin Racing (AMR) at the same time as the normal Vantage. It features a Mercedes-AMG 4.0L twin-turbocharged V8 alongside a 6-speed Xtrac sequential manual transmission and can be converted from its GTE specification to GT3 specifications.[2]

The #97, driven by Alex Lynn, Maxime Martin, and Jonathan Adam, (2018 6 Hours of Spa and both the 2018 and 2019 24 Hours of Le Mans only) competed in the LMGTE Pro class of the WEC during the 2018-19 season. The team would end up finishing 8th in the drivers' championship, a half point ahead of their sister car, the #95, with the team finishing 4th in the manufacturers' championship. Each car managed a win throughout the season, with the #97 winning in class at the 2019 edition of the 6 Hours of Spa and the #95 winning in class at the 6 Hours of Shanghai.[3]

Both cars would return for the 2019-20 season and the team would end up doing much better overall, winning the manufacturers' championship, with the #95 finishing 1st in the drivers' championship and the #97 finishing 2nd. The #97 would be once again be driven the whole season by Martin, with Lynn featuring in all but the final round of the championship. For this season, they would be joined by Harry Tincknell at the 2020 24 Hours of Le Mans and Richard Westbrook would step in for Lynn at the 2020 8 Hours of Bahrain. The car would only win once during the season, but it would be the coveted 24 Hours of Le Mans, with the #95 also finishing on the class podium in 3rd. The car would finish in 3rd 4 other times during the season, joining the #95 on the podium at the 6 Hours of Fuji, the 2019 edition of the 8 Hours of Bahrain, and the 2020 6 Hours of Spa, with the first two being class wins for the #95 and the latter race being a 2nd place.[4] AMR would cease competing in the Pro class after this season, but would continue to campaign a car in the Amateur class like they had been doing for the previous two seasons.
