The 2014 Audi #2 Audi Team Joest R18 e-tron quattro - abbreviated as "#2 R18 '14" or "Audi #2 R18"[1] - is an LMP1 sports prototype by Audi.

It appears in Forza Motorsport 6 and all subsequent Motorsport titles, as well as Forza Motorsport 6: Apex.

Synopsis[]

The second major evolution of the Audi R18, the 2014 version of the R18 e-tron quattro is a complete overhaul compared to its 2011 variant. The car has a new lighter chassis developed by YCOM instead of Dallara like the previous chassis was. The drivetrain has also been completely redesigned, with the displacement of the V6 engine increased from 3.7L to 4.0L and the flywheel and Motor Generator Unit (MGU) being upgraded to produce more than twice as much horsepower.[2] The car was originally intended to have a second energy recovery system in the form of an exhaust heat recovery system (MGU-H), but this was dropped before the start of the season.[3]

The #2 competed in the 2014 World Endurance Championship (WEC) season, with André Lotterer, Benoît Tréluyer, and Marcel Fässler piloting the car. The car along with its sibling car, the #1, would make its debut at the season opening race at the 6 Hours of Silverstone. Unfortunately, this would be a debut to forget, as both cars would retire from the race due to drivers losing control and going off-track.[4] The next round at Spa would go a bit better for the Audis, as the #1 would take 2nd, while the #2 would finish in 5th. A third car, the #3, would join for this round and the next, finishing just behind the #2 in 6th.[5]

That next round would be the 24 Hours of Le Mans, where the two main Audi cars would end up on the top two steps of the podium, giving Audi an incredible 5th straight victory at Le Mans and an even more crazy 13th victory in 15 years. Unfortunately, this would seem be the end of Audi's domination of the event, as Audi has yet to win another Le Mans as of 2025. The #3 would not be able to join its two sister cars on the podium as it aquaplaned off the circuit about 25 laps into the race.[6]

Audi would revert to two cars from the race at Circuit of the Americas onwards. At COTA, Audi would get their second straight 1-2 finish, with the #2 once again taking the win. Unfortunately, aside from a 3rd place finish for the #1 at Interlagos, the rest of the season would be underwhelming for the Audi team as neither car would end up on the podium again. Even with these results however, the #2 team would still end up 2nd in the drivers' championship and Audi would end up 2nd in the manufacturers' championship, only being beat by Toyota and two of their drivers.[5]
