"The RS 4 Avant takes the notion of a wagon being some sort of sedate family transporter and tosses it right out the window. It might be surprising to hear but, in its time, this was the most powerful production car Audi ever built, with a 375-hp twin-turbo V6. This isn’t just some monster they released to scare grocery-getters; the RS 4 Avant is a true sports car despite its ample room in the rear. Bespoke body panels surround oversize tires, enlarged brake rotors sit behind every wheel, and the suspension is lively and responsive. This speedy wagon is ready for a trip to grandmother’s house; just make sure the road over the hills and through the woods has plenty of twists and turns to enjoy."—Official description[1]
The 2001 Audi RS 4 Avant is an all-wheel drive wagon by Audi.
It appears in the Duracell Car Pack for Forza Horizon 2 and as standard in all subsequent titles except for Forza Horizon 3.
Synopsis[]
Designed as the successor to the 1995 RS 2 Avant, the RS 4 Avant was only available as a station wagon but solely developed by Audi's subsidiary quattro GmbH. It continued to utilize an all-wheel drive system that was now powered by a twin-turbo V6 engine.[2]
The RS 4 Avant was produced from 1999 to 2001 but continued to be unavailable for the North American market. A successor was released five years after its end of production.
Based on the Volkswagen Group B5 platform, which is also used by successor to the mid-size Audi 80 - the Audi A4 - the RS 4 Avant uses a front multilink suspension to improve on steering response and subsequently handling. Compared to the RS 2 Avant, it has relatively similar dimensions with the exception of a greater width and a moderate gain of weight (54 lb (24 kg)) without changing front weight percentage.
The Cosworth developed 2.7 litre twin-turbo 90° V6 engine produces 375 hp (280 kW), which is 64 hp (48 kW) more than on its predecessor, and 324 ft·lb (439 N·m) of torque.[2]
