Snagging the 2.7-liter V6 from the larger A6 sedan was already an improvement, but by bolting on a pair of intercooled turbochargers the S4 is now capable of mixing it up with the big boys. All that power in another car might unsettle the chassis, but as an Audi the S4 has a secret weapon—the rally-bred quattro system, so that the S4 doesn’t have to rely on just two wheels to put down the power. Now the S4 can lay down the hurt without ending up in the weeds. Of course, the extra power and handling prowess don’t upset the S4, which perfectly balances its hard-charging aspirations with the comfort and refinement Audi buyers expect.
