"The 1980s were famous for big hair, New Wave music, and most importantly, Group B rally racing. The wildly popular rally series featured some of the most highly developed racers to ever hit the dirt and snow. The Sport Quattro was a road-going derivative of the famous Group B Quattros that introduced all-wheel drive to rally racing. That means it enjoys a generous helping of nifty racing tricks: its shortened wheelbase and all-wheel drive grip give the Sport Quattro supernatural agility, the Kevlar body keeps weight down, and the huge turbocharger gives it superlative acceleration. In fact, despite its angular appearance, the Sport Quattro can muster a 0-60 mph time of well under 5 seconds, faster than many traditional supercars of the time. The one-two punch of the Sport Quattro and Group B Quattro firmly dismissed the notion that Audi was a tame automaker, vaulting the German company into the forefront of motorsports—particularly in the hands of Michèle Mouton, the most successful female rally driver of all time, and famed driver Walter Röhrl. The Quattros are so important to the company’s heritage that they retired the capitalized form of the name; the all-wheel drive system named after the ur-Quattro is now officially called “quattro.”"—Official description[1]
The 1983 Audi Sport quattro - abbreviated as "Audi quattro" - is a production all-wheel drive rally car by Audi.
It appears in Forza Motorsport 2 as part of the December Car Pack and as standard in all subsequent main series titles.
Synopsis[]
The 1983 Sport quattro was designed for Group B homologation and built in a production run of 214 units.[2] Being an early adopter of Audi's quattro all-wheel drive system, it was one of the fastest and most successful cars in Group B rallying. In 1986, a more powerful racing variant was released - the E2 specification Audi Sport quattro S1.
The Sport quattro is the heaviest Group B production car in the Forza series due to being equipped with an all-wheel drive system that increases its weight to 2807 lb (1273 kg).
Performance[]
Powered by a longitudinally mounted front engine, it is more likely to understeer than its rear-wheel drive counterparts although it also has a strong advantage in straight-line performance: The turbocharged 2.1 litre engine produces 306 hp (228 kW) and 258 ft·lb (350 N·m) of torque, catapulting the car from 0 to 60 mph in only 4.4 seconds, and making it the fastest Group B rally production car after the more expensive Ford RS200 Evolution.[3]
