"Thanks to the restrictions on what can be called a kei car, most models end up being kind of dull and soulless. However, the makers of what has been called one of the greatest kei cars of all time broke the mold with the 1993 Autozam AZ-1. This fun-sized warrior had everything you want to see in a traditional hyper car like gullwing doors, an aerodynamic body design, and an engine sitting in the middle. No wonder its production chief was the same person in charge of the first Miata! How fast can you make your AZ-1? Only one way to find out: with the JDM Jewels Car Pack available now!"
—Official description[1]

The 1993 Autozam AZ-1 - abbreviated as "Autozam AZ-1 '93" - is a rear-wheel drive sports kei car by Autozam.

It appears in Forza Horizon 5 as part of the JDM Jewels Car Pack, which debuted in Series 36.

Synopsis[]

Manufactured from 1992 to 1994, the AZ-1 was manufactured by Autozam, a brand of Mazda specialized in small cars. Designed as a kei-class sports car, the AZ-1 is a redesign of the Suzuki RS/1-3 concept cars, projects of which Suzuki had cancelled in favor of the development of the Suzuki Cappuccino roadster.

Constructed around newly revised Kei car regulations, such as a maximum engine capacity of 660 cc, the AZ-1 is known for its gullwing doors, low center of gravity and sharp steering.[2]

With almost 4,400 units produced, the AZ-1 had low sales due to a marginally higher price tag than its main competitors, the Honda Beat and the Suzuki Cappuccino, and in the midst of an economic recession in Japan at the time, Mazda ended the production of the car shortly after in 1994.

With plenty of stock to sell, Mazda introduced several special editions of the AZ-1, including a body kit, the Mazdaspeed, featuring an enhanced and sportier hood, a front spoiler and a rear wing. A rebadged version from Suzuki, the Suzuki Cara, was also introduced.

Powered by a Suzuki-sourced 657 cc (0.6-liter) turbocharged straight-three engine from a Suzuki Alto, and paired to a 5-speed manual transmission, the AZ-1 produced 63 hp (47 kW) and 63 ft·lb (85 N·m) of torque at 4,000 rpm.[3]
