"BMW Team RLL debuted the M6 GTLM at the 2016 Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona and saw success right out of the box. In 2017 the pair of M6 GTLMs won the IMSA WeatherTech series season-ending Petit Le Mans, along with victories at Watkins Glen, Mosport, and Laguna Seca, and combined with four other podium finishes, resulting in a second place finish in manufacturer points. With two teams of drivers in the #24 and #25, the latter captained by veteran driver Bill Auberlin, Team RLL gave the two-year run of the twin-turbo V8-powered M6 GTLM a run for the record books."
—Official description[1]

The 2017 BMW #24 BMW Team RLL M6 GTLM - abbreviated as "BMW #24 M6" - is a GTLM race car by BMW.

It appears in Forza Motorsport 7 as part of the Totino's Car Pack and in Forza Motorsport (2023).

Synopsis[]

Based on the third generation BMW M6, the M6 GTLM was built as a successor to the Z4 GTE for the GT Le Mans (GTLM) class of the IMSA SportsCar Championship. Powered by a 4.4L twin-turbocharged S63B44T0 V8 engine, the car is similar to its GT3 twin, but is about 110 lb (50 kg) lighter, doesn't have anti-lock brakes, and also has a slightly longer wheelbase.[2] The car would make its debut at the opening round of the 2016 season at the 24 Hours of Daytona.[3]

The #24 was one of the two cars that was raced during the 2017 IMSA season. The main lineup for the car would be John Edwards and Martin Tomczyk, with Kuno Wittmer joining for Daytona along with Nick Catsburg, who would also be the third driver for the 12 Hours of Sebring and Petit Le Mans. While the car would get a win in class at Laguna Seca along with a 2nd place finish and two 3rd place finishes, it would be the less successful car compared to its sister car, the #25. That car would take 3 wins in class, with two of them coming at the endurance rounds at the 6 Hours of the Glen and Petit Le Mans, which, along with a 2nd place at Circuit of the Americas, would lead to a 2nd overall finish in both the teams' and drivers' championships. While the #24 would finish 7th in both those championships as the 2nd lowest placed full time competitor, BMW would still finish 2nd overall in the manufacturers' championship. For the 2018 season, the GTLM would be replaced by the M8 GTE.[4] {{Clear}
