The 2005 BMW #2 BMW M3 GTR is a GT race car by BMW.

It appears in Forza Motorsport 2, Forza Motorsport 3 and Forza Motorsport 4.

Synopsis[]

Based on the E46 generation of the BMW M3, the M3 GTR was developed as an evolution of the original GT racing variant of the car that competed in the GT class of the 2000 American Le Mans Series (ALMS). While that car would finish 3rd in the championship, the inline 6 in the car was seen as uncompetitive compared to the flat 6 in the Porsche 911 GT3. Thus, it was decided that a more powerful engine was needed for the car, leading to the development of the P60 V8. The car would make its debut at the 2001 12 Hours of Sebring.[1]

The final major race for the GTR would be the 2005 edition of the Nürburgring 24 Hours, with the #42 and #43 returning for a 3rd and final time, but now renumbered to the #1 and #2. The #1 would be the 2004 #42 crew, while the #2 would be the 2004 #43 crew, but with Andy Priaulx replacing Hans-Joachim Stuck. Both cars would have their best qualifying out of the three years, with the #1 qualifying 3rd overall and on pole position in class, while the #2 would join it on the 2nd row of the grid with a 4th overall and 2nd in class qualifying position. The two cars would then follow up their result from the previous year with another 1-2 overall finish, however this time the #2 team were the ones to take the win, while the #1 would finish 5 laps back in 2nd. After these back-to-back victories, the GTR would be retired for good.[2]
