Synopsis[]
The 3.0 CSL (Coupé Sport Leichtbau, German for coupé sport lightweight) is a homologation model of the BMW 3.0 CS (E9).
The 1971 model is the first iteration of the CSL, featuring a carbureted three liter engine with 177 hp (132 kW) and a curb weight of 2568 lb (1165 kg). Due to a high price markup, only 169 models were built. 1972 and newer models are equipped with a more powerful fuel-injected three liter engine producing 197 hp (147 kW). The final iteration of the CSL, built between 1973 and 1975, could be optioned with a bodykit similar to the racing variant.[1]
The BMW E9 series was replaced by the 6 Series in 1976.
