The 2014 BMW #56 BMW Team RLL Z4 GTE is a GTE race car by BMW.

It appears in Forza Motorsport 6 and Forza Motorsport 7.

Synopsis[]

Based on the second generation BMW Z4, the Z4 GTE was the replacement for the BMW M3 GT2 as the GT2 class transitioned into the Grand Touring Endurance (GTE) regulations. The car is very similar to its GT3 counterpart, using the same drivetrain, gearbox and engine (although the GTE has a lower RPM), with most of the differences coming in regard to the aerodynamics. The car uses a single tier wing (compared to the GT3's double tier), has wider bodywork in the rear, and has modified wheel arches in both the front and the rear.[1]

The #55 and the #56 would compete together as teammates in the final season of the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) in 2013 as a part of the GT class. The main drivers for the #55 would be Bill Auberlen and Maxime Martin, although neither would run the full season. Meanwhile. the #56 would only have one main driver, Dirk Müller, although he would run the full season with the second driver alternating between Joey Hand and John Edwards. Martin would be replaced by Hand for the round at COTA, while Jörg Müller (who was also the third driver for the car's debut at the 12 Hours of Sebring) would fill in at Petit Le Mans for Auberlen who would be the third driver for the #56 in that race. Finally, Uwe Alzen would be the third driver for the #55 at Petit Le Mans.

The first win for either car would be for the #55 in the car's second race at Long Beach, with the #56 finishing just behind in class to also give the car its first 1-2. This would unfortunately be the high point of the season for the #55 as it would never touch the podium the rest of the season. Meanwhile, the #56 would go on to claim its own first win at Lime Rock Park and would also claim a couple of 3rd places and 2nd place in class throughout the rest of the season, usually beating the #55. The team overall would end up finishing 2nd in the championship, while Dirk Müller would finish 2nd overall in the drivers' championship and Auberlen would finish 4th.[2]

The two cars would return the next year for the inaugural season of the United (now IMSA) SportsCar Championship (USCC) after the ALMS and their competing series, the Rolex Sports Car Series (RSCS) were merged together. The cars would now compete in the GT Le Mans (GTLM) class, with Auberlen and Dirk Müller returning as the main drivers for the #55 and #56, respectively, with the former being joined by Andy Priaulx and the latter joined by Dirk Müller. Hand would be the #55's third driver for the three major endurance races and Martin would be the fourth for the 24 Hours of Daytona, while Dirk Werner would be the third driver and Graham Rahal would be the fourth driver for the #56.

Neither team would manage to get a win over the course of the season, however both cars would achieve two 2nd places and a 3rd place finish each. Due to slightly better results in the other races during the season, the #56 would finish 5th in the teams' championship, while the #55 would finish two points and two spots behind in 7th. The main driver duos for each car would each finish slightly farther down the drivers' championship table, with the #56 duo in 7th and the #55 duo just behind in 8th. While BMW would be the only GTLM to not earn a single class win over the course of the season, they would still manage to finish in the penultimate spot in the teams' championship standings. [3]

The two cars would be replaced by two newer chassis for the 2015 USCC season, with those cars numbered the #24 and #25.[4] A single car would also be run in the European Le Mans Series (ELMS) during that season. For the 2016 newly rebranded IMSA SportsCar Championship season, both cars would be replaced by the BMW M6 GTLM.
