The 2014 BMW #5 eBay Motors 125i M Sport - abbreviated as "#5 BMW 125i" - is a BTCC touring car by BMW.

It appears in Forza Motorsport 6, Forza Motorsport 6: Apex, and Forza Motorsport 7.

Synopsis[]

Technical[]

Based on the second generation BMW 1 Series, the #5 125i competed in the British Touring Car Championship. The car was built by West Surrey Racing (WSR) for the Next Generation Touring Car (NGTC) specifications, meaning it uses the standard 2.0L turbocharged I4 and the same brakes, suspension and transmission as all other NGTC cars. The car was built as a replacement for WSR's Super 2000 (S2000) spec 320sis.[1]

2013[]

Debuting as the #29 and driven by Colin Turkington, the car would be entered under the eBay Motors moniker. The car would take its first win in the third race of the Donington Park round. The car would then go on to almost sweep both the rounds at Croft Circuit and Knockhill, but would finish 2nd in the third race at the former and would be disqualified from 4th (due to overboost) in the third race at the latter. There would be a positive to come out of that latter round however as one of the other team cars, the #5, driven by Rob Collard, would finish 3rd. Along with a 2nd and 3rd place each at the Oulton Park and Rockingham rounds, Turkington would finish 5th in the drivers' standings, but would have finished 4th if it wasn't for the disqualification. The overall team would finish 3rd in the teams' championship and both Turkington and the team would finish 2nd in their respective championships for independent teams/drivers.[2]

2014[]

For 2014, the car would be renumbered to the #5, with Collard's car being renumbered to the #10. This year would be even better for Turkington, with him finishing on the podium at least once in every single round during the season. The car would again almost sweep both the rounds at Croft and Knockhill, along with Rockingham, but Turkington's third race results in each would once again prevent this, with him finishing 3rd at Croft, 4th at Rockingham, and retiring at Knockhill. Turkington would take 2 more wins over the course of the season and would win the drivers' championship. Turkington's overall win would also allow his team to take the teams' championship and for each of them to win both independent trophies.[3]

2015[]

For 2015, WSR would become a constructor entry for BMW instead of an independent, while the #5 would have a new driver and number, now the #111 with Andy Priaulx at the wheel, and would now be run under the Team IHG moniker. The car unfortunately could not match the performance of its previous two seasons, only taking 2 wins and causing Priaulx to finish 8th. It also wouldn't be the highest scoring BMW for the first time, with that honor going to Sam Tordoff in the #7. WSR would end up 3rd in the constructers' standings, but this would be out of only 4 teams and would be the worst of the full time teams. Finally, Team IHG specifically would finish 6th in the teams' championship, but this would be second best of the single car teams (the #7 and another car, the #6, were regarded as a separate team, Team JCT600).[4]

2016[]

For 2016, the car's number and driver would change again, now piloted by Jack Goff and renumbered to the #31. The car would have its worst season to date, not winning a single race. It would however take a 2nd and 3rd place each, leading to Goff finishing 11th. Things would be much better for the overall team, with BMW winning the constructors' championship thanks to Team JCT600 taking the teams' championship. Team IHG would take 8th in the latter standings, once again being the second best single car team.[5]

2017[]

BMW would up its support for 2017, giving WSR its full support as a manufacturer team, with Team IHG getting another moniker rename to BMW Pirtek Racing. The car would have its third and final major change, with Andrew Jordon now driving the #77. The car would somewhat get back to its winning ways, with Jordan taking 3 win and a 3rd place finish to 9th in the drivers' championship. BMW would once again win the constructors' championship thanks to WSR's duo team (now racing under the Team BMW moniker) taking their second straight teams' championship. BMW Pirtek would also once again take 8th in the latter standings as the second best single car team.[6]

2018[]

For the first time since 2015, the car would not change its driver, and for the first time ever would not change its number. While Jordon only took one win over the course of the season, his other results were enough to see him finish 5th overall in the drivers' championship. In terms of the championships, it would almost be an exact repeat of the previous two seasons, with BMW and Team BMW taking their 3rd straight overall wins, however Turkington would also win the drivers' championship again and BMW Pirtek would move up a position to 7th overall in the teams' championship.[7]

2018 would be the last year for the WSR 125is, as WSR would return to using the 3 Series, with a switch to the newly introduced seventh generation 330is for the 2019 season.[8] The #5/77, along with another of the 125is would end up in private collections, while the third car would be sold to Team HARD.[9]
