"The 2002 BMW M3-GTR is synonymous with rarity. As BMW puts it, “The GTRs (both race and street copies) were never sold to anyone. Only three street copies were built. Not all three were ever shown. A street copy was shown in the US only once, and for less than an hour.” Little wonder, then, that this M3 is bound to be a prize for “Forza Horizon” players."—Official description[1]
The 2002 BMW M3-GTR - abbreviated as "BMW M3 '02"[2] - is a rear-wheel drive track-tuned sports car by BMW.
It is featured in all Xbox 360 Forza titles except Forza Horizon 2. It appears in Forza Motorsport 4 as a Unicorn Car and was available in Forza Horizon as part of the April Top Gear Car Pack.
It also appears in Forza Horizon 4 as a seasonal reward, Forza Horizon 5 and Forza Motorsport (2023).
Synopsis[]
The 2002 M3-GTR is the road variant of the M3 GTR race car that was built to satisfy homologation rules by the FIA. Unlike its standard production variant, the M3-GTR came equipped with racing modifications from its competition variant such as a four liter V8 engine and carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) body parts.
A total of six units were produced, with three units having been used as development test mules, and the other three having survived as part of BMW Group Classic's collection.[3]

Trivia[]
- Its rear aero upgrade selection allows players to remove the rear wing and gurney flap.
- The M3-GTR in Xbox 360 titles is fitted with 19 inch cross spoke wheels from the BMW M3 CSL, but is fitted with the same wheel style as the 2005 M3 in Forza Horizon 4.
- The Forza Horizon 4 rendition of the M3-GTR has some model inaccuracies:
- The gurney flap on the trunk is not made in carbon-fiber as they are on the original.
- The taillight housings on the trunk are from the 2003 to 2005 E46 Cabriolet and Coupé.
