The 2014-2017 Bentley Continental GT3 is a GT3 race car by Bentley.

It appears in Forza Motorsport 6 and all subsequent Motorsport series titles, including Forza Motorsport 6: Apex, as well as in Forza Horizon 3 since the December 2016 update.

Synopsis[]

Technical Info[]

Based on the second generation Bentley Continental and designed by M-Sport, the Continental GT3 was unveiled at the 2013 edition of the Goodwood Festival of Speed. It sports the same 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 as the V8 version of the road car, but with power now rated at 600 hp (447 kW) and torque at 531 ft·lb (720 N·m). The car would make its debut at the 2013 edition of the Gulf 12 Hours.[1]

#7[]

2014[]

The #7 competed in the endurance rounds of the 2014 Blancpain GT Series in the Pro Cup class. At the season opening round at Monza, Guy Smith, Steven Kane, and Andy Meyrick would guide the car to an 8th place (7th in class) overall finish, with the sister car the #8 finishing one spot ahead in 7th. The British trio would do better in the next couple of rounds, getting the car its first ever win at Silverstone followed by another overall victory in the next round at Paul Ricard. It would then round out the season with a 9th in class (13th place overall) at the 24 Hours of Spa and a 5th in class (8th place overall) at the Nürburgring. This would allow the #7 crew to finish 2nd in the endurance drivers' championship (14th in the overall championship) and the team to finish 2nd in the endurance teams' championship (7th in the overall championship), with Laurens Vanthoor and his WRT team taking victory in each championship, respectively.[2] [3]

2015[]

The two cars along with the #7 crew would return for the 2015 endurance rounds. The #7 would have more podiums this season, with a 3rd in class (5th overall) to start the season at Monza, and two 2nd place finishes at Paul Ricard and the Nürburgring, but would never manage to make it to the top step of them podium. Even with no wins, the #7 would finish in the exact same places as the previous season in both the endurance and overall team standings, while the team would also not move positions in either championship, once again being beat by WRT. The #8 crew would manage to improve their position however to 10th in the drivers' standings.[4] [5]

2016[]

The M-Sport team would expand its participation to a full schedule for the 2016 season, with both cars now competing in both the sprint and endurance rounds of the championship. Kane and Smith would once again return for the #7, however Meyrick would be replaced by Vincent Abril who would drive the car during the sprint rounds along with Kane. The only podium for the #7 team would be a tentative one at Spa, where the car would be 3rd at the 12 hour mark. The crew would finish 24th and 25th in the sprint and endurance standings, respectively. Unlike the previous two seasons, the #8 would be the better car out of the two. That crew would finish 3rd in the endurance drivers' championship thanks in part to the car staying within the top 5 at each of the point scoring marks during the 24 Hours of Spa, including the car being in the lead at the half way mark. In the sprint drivers' championship, the #8 crew would finish 8th overall but would get the team's first sprint victory in the qualifying race at Misano. The overall team would finish on exactly the same points as 1st and 2nd place in the endurance standings, but would end up 3rd due to having less wins than 1st and no second places. In its first outing in the sprint races, the team would finish 6th overall. Finally, in the overall championship, the #8 sprint duo would finish 4th, while the team would finish 5th overall.

Unlike the previous two seasons, the #8 would be the better car out of the two, finishing 3rd in the drivers' championship for the endurance rounds thanks in part to a 3rd place finish at Monza and the car staying within the top 5 at each of the point scoring marks during the 24 Hours of Spa, including the car being in the lead at the half way mark. Soucek and Soulet would pilot the car for the sprint rounds, finishing 8th overall through a qualifying race win at Misano, a 3rd place in the main race at Brands Hatch and a 4th and a 2nd place finish in the Catalunya qualifying and main races, respectively.[6][7][8]

2017[]

The #7 and #8 would once again run the full season in 2017, with slightly changed lineups. While Abril would still run the #7 in the sprint races, he would switch to the #8 for the endurance rounds, replacing Wolfgang Reip, with Oliver Jarvis taking his spot in the #7. For this season, instead of one car doing better in both championships, the #7 would be the better team in the sprint rounds, while the #8 would be the better team in the endurance rounds. In terms of the sprint rounds, the #7 would finish 4th and 2nd in the qualifying and main races at Misano, respectively and then achieve a 5th place finish at Zolder to finish 6th overall in the sprint drivers' championship, but well off the top 5. This would help the team to also finish 6th in the sprint teams' championship.[9]

In the endurance rounds, the #8 would win at Paul Ricard, giving M-Sport its first endurance win since the same race 3 years earlier. It would then follow this up with a 2nd overall finish at Spa, which would also allow the #8 to finish 2nd overall in the endurance drivers' championship. The #7 on the other hand would have its worst endurance season to date, with a 9th place at Silverstone being its only points finish on the season. It would also be black flagged and disqualified from the opening round at Monza due to not serving a stop and go penalty for causing a red flag triggering crash at the very start of the race.[10] The #7 crew would finish all the way down in 48th overall, but because of how well the #8 did, the team would win the endurance teams' championship by a single point. Due to Abril being on the best performing teams in both championships, he would finish 3rd in the overall drivers' standings, while the #8 sprint duo would finish in 8th. The team overall would finish 4th in the teams' championship.[11][12] With the introduction of the third generation Continental GT in 2018, M-Sport would start running a new GT3 based on this GT for the 2018 season.

#17[]

The #17 took part in the GT3 class as a part of the 2014 British GT Championship season. The car was meant to be driven by Kane and Humaid Al Masaood all through the season, however due to other personal commitments, Al Masaood would be replaced with Rembert Berg for the car's first three races.[13] The car would get off to a good start with an 8th place in the first race at Oulton Park, but then would follow this up with a 17th place in the second race. The team would then skip the race at Rockingham, but would return for the Silverstone 500 where they would get their best finish during the season of 4th. Unfortunately, once Al Masaood and Berg swapped, the car would alternate between retirements and finishes outside the top 10, failing to pick up another point. Kane and Berg would end up 29th in the championship, while Al Masaood would not be classified.[14]

#17A[]

The #17A would only take part in two events, the 2017 and 2018 editions of the Bathurst 12 Hour as a part of the APP (GT3 Pro) class. The crew for the 2017 race would be the same as the endurance round crew for the #7 car from that year's GT Series. It also had a sibling car, the #8, which contained the other GT Series endurance round crew. The #17 would end up on both the overall and class podiums, finishing 3rd in the former and 2nd in the latter, while the #8 would finish 12th overall and 5th in class.[15]

For the 2018 race, the #17 crew would once again be the same as that year's GT Series #7 crew, with Jules Gounon replacing Jarvis. The #8 on the other hand, which had been renumbered to the #18, retained the same crew as the previous year due to the #8 GT Series trio not changing. Neither car would manage to match their success from the previous year, as the #17 would finish #16 overall and 6th in class, while the #18 would suffer a tire failure and get stuck in a sand trap.[16]

Trivia[]

  • In Forza Motorsport (2023), the 2014 #17 was classified in the now split-up Forza GT division prior to Update 15.
  • In Forza Motorsport (2023), prior to Update 21, the 2014 #17 was valued at 307,000 CR.
  • In official records for the Bathurst 12 Hour, the #17A is noted as just the #17. In the Bathurst 12 Hour, the numbers shown on the sides of cars include a letter indicating what major class the car is in. The Bentley number contains an A as that letter denotes the car as a GT3 entry.
