The 1985 Buick #6 Performance Motorsports Somerset Regal Trans-Am - abbreviated as "Buick #6 Regal" - is a Trans-Am race car by Buick.
It appears in Forza Motorsport (2023) as part of the Car Pass since December 21, 2023.
Synopsis[]
Based on the coupe version of the fifth generation Buick Skylark, the Somerset Regal Trans-Am raced in the SCCA Trans-Am series in the mid 1980s. The car features a 4.5-liter naturally-aspirated V6 engine paired to a Weismann five-speed transmission with a power output of over 500 hp (373 kW) and over 380 ft·lb (515 N·m) of torque.[1]
The #8 would debut in the 1985 season of the championship. Driven by Elliot Forbes-Robinson, the car would end up taking its first win at a street circuit around Detroit. After this, it would finish 2nd three times (in the span of four races) and 3rd a single time before achieving its second win of the season at the penultimate race at Sears Point (now known as Sonoma). Forbes-Robinson would end the season 4th in the drivers' standings.[2]
For the 1986 season, the Performance Motorsports team would also field a second car, the #66, however the chassis that had ran as the #6 the previous season would be relegated to the backup role. It's only appearance would be at the Detroit street race, however it wouldn't be able to repeat its performance of the previous year, retiring due to a broken header on the engine. For the 1987 season, the original #6 chassis, along with its replacement and the #88 would be sold to Gordon Oftedahl.[3] While a #6 would compete in the 1987 and 1988 seasons under Oftedahl Racing, it is unknown which chassis was driven at each race.
The next confirmed race for the original chassis would be at the 1989 24 Hours of Daytona. Competing in the GTO class as the #32, the car would be driven by Ric Moore, Pieter Baljet, and Randy McDonald and would now have a 5.7L V8 under the hood. The car would end up finishing 9th in class and 40th overall.[4] The car would eventually be bought again, this time by Mike McNamee, who would restore the car from a disheveled state to its 1985 specs and livery, racing the car at classics events like the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion.[1]
