The 2023 Cadillac #31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac Racing V-Series.R - abbreviated as "Cadillac #31 LM" - is an LMDh sports prototype by Cadillac.
It appears in Forza Motorsport (2023).
Synopsis[]
The V-Series.R was Cadillac/GM's entry for the Le Mans Daytona h (LMDh) regulations in both the GTP class in the IMSA SportsCar Championship and the Hypercar class in the FIA World Endurance Championship. Built by Dallara, the car features a 5.5-liter naturally-aspirated V8 engine alongside a hybrid powertrain, with a rear-mounted 67 hp (50 kW) battery supplied by Bosch. Paired to a 7-speed sequential manual transmission by Xtrac, the V-Series.R produces 671 hp (500 kW) and 466 ft·lb (632 N·m).[1]
The #01 and #31 would first compete in the 2023 IMSA season. Both cars (referred to as V-LMDhs) would make their debut at the 24 Hours of Daytona. The main two drivers for the #01 would be Sébastien Bourdais and Renger van der Zande, with Scott Dixon joining for the three major endurance rounds. The #31 would be mainly piloted by Pipo Derani and Alexander Sims, with Jack Aitken joining the duo for all of the endurance rounds. Both cars would do well at Daytona, with the #01 taking 3rd place and the #31 finishing 5th, with the two being split by a third sister car, the #02, finishing 4th in its only appearance. In the next race at the 12 Hours of Sebring, the cars would gain their current names and the #31 would give the car its first win.
A few races later at Laguna Seca, the #01 would get its first win and would also be a part of BMW's first double podium with the #31 finishing in 3rd. Over the course of the rest of the season, while both cars would only achieve an additional 2nd place finish each, the #31 team's other results would allow them to take both the drivers' and teams' championships, with Cadillac also taking the manufacturers' championship. The #01 team would end up finishing 7th in both the drivers' and teams' championships.[2]
For the 2024 season, the #01 crew would stay mostly the same, while the #31 would have somewhat major changes. The only change for the #01 would be the addition of Álex Palou for Daytona, while for the #31, Aitken would replace Sims as a full time driver, with his role being taken over by Tom Blomqvist. This season wouldn't be as successful for the #31, as while it would take three 2nd place finishes, all three would happen in the first half of the season, with the car and team eventually ending up 4th in their respective championships. Things would be better for the #01, with the car taking two wins to go along with two second places and a third place, however this would only get them 3rd in the standings. Cadillac would end up 2nd in the constructors' standings, being beaten in each of the championships by Penske and their 963s.[3]
The #31 is the only car currently competing in the 2025 IMSA season. 2024 would end up being the final season for the #01, with Chip Ganassi Racing and Cadillac parting ways before the end of the season, being replaced by Wayne Taylor Racing.[4][5]
