"Driven by 2016 series champion Simon Pagenaud and powered by Chevrolet."
—Official description[1]

The 2019 Chevrolet #22 Team Penske Dallara - abbreviated as #22 IndyCar '19 - is an IndyCar by Chevrolet.

It appears in Forza Motorsport 7 since the May 2019 update.

Synopsis[]

Succeeding the IR-05, the DW12 was built by Dallara to be used as the standard chassis in the IndyCar Series. The car's name departed from Dallara's regular naming conventions due to the death of its test driver, Dan Wheldon, just before its introduction, with the chassis named in his honor. The car would go through a minor aerodynamic overhaul in 2018 to improve downforce, with this new version of the car being dubbed the IR-18/UAK-18 (Universal Aero Kit 2018). The only major difference between the Chevrolet version of the DW12 and the Honda version is the engine, with the former being powered by a 2.2L twin-turbocharged DOHC V6 that was developed for Chevrolet by Ilmor, producing between 550 hp (410 kW) and 680 hp (507 kW), depending on the circuit. As well as sharing the same chassis, the Chevrolets and Hondas also share the same changeable aero kit, as denoted by one of the new names for the car.[2] The cars in Motorsport 7 feature the aero kits for both road courses and ovals.

The #2 and #22 both competed in the 2019 IndyCar season, with the #2 driven by Josef Newgarden and the #22 piloted by Simon Pagenaud. While both cars would have a strong season, the #2 would be the car to have a stronger season. Newgarden would win 4 times and also finish on the podium 3 other times (with 2 second places and a third place) to take his second drivers' title in 3 years. Pagenaud would finish just behind in 2nd after taking 3 wins and a 3rd place. Even with these top two positions, Chevrolet would lose the Manufacturers' Cup to Honda for the second year in a row.[3] For the 2020 season, all cars were equipped with the Aeroscreen cockpit protection (similar to the Halo used in Formula 1) to prevent debris (and/or other cars) from striking drivers in the head like what caused the death of Justin Wilson in 2015.[2]
