The 2005 Chevrolet #99 Tiger Racing Corvette Z06 is a GT race car by Chevrolet.

It is featured in Forza Motorsport 2, and Forza Motorsport 3.

Synopsis[]

Based on the C5 generation of the Chevrolet Corvette, the Corvette Z06 was built to compete in the SCCA World Challenge series. The car uses a modified version of the 5.8L engine found in the road car, with it now outputting 525 hp (391 kW). The car would make its debut at the opening round of the 1999 season at Mosport. Initially using lip spoilers and being simply called the Corvette C5, the cars would start to gain pedestal spoilers in 2001, and would be renamed the Z06 in 2002 to coincide with the reintroduction of the model name a year earlier.

The #99 would join the World Challenge grid in 2003, driven by Thomas Oates. Oates would have a similar first season to Phil McClure in the #73, only finishing within the top 10 twice, on pace to a 10th place overall finish, although he would win the rookies' championship. Even with McClure on the podium in the #73 overall podium, Chevrolet would finish 4th and last of the manufacturers.[1]

While Oates would continue to drive the #99 during the 2004 season, he would be replaced for two races by Chip Herr. Overall, the car would end up having a less successful season, with its best finish being 10th. Oates would finish 21st overall, while Chevrolet would once again finish 4th and last of the manufacturers.[2]

Herr would once again sub in for Oates at some races during the 2005 season, although the #99 would perform better then it had the previous season, with four top 10 finishes shared between the two drivers. However, due to neither driver competing at all the rounds, Oates would only slightly improve his position from the previous year, finishing 17th in the standings. For the first time, Chevrolet would finally finish ahead of another season-long competitor, just beating out Dodge for 3rd in the manufacturers' championship.[3]

2005 would be the last full season for the Z06s, as Chevrolet had introduced the next generation of the Corvette, the C6 during that year, with those taking over from the C5s staring in the 200 season, although some C5s like the #31 would continue running for at least one of the opening rounds.
