"The Eagle-Weslake T16 (commonly called the Eagle Mk1) was the brainchild of a historic partnership between American racing greats Dan Gurney and Carroll Shelby and is widely considered one of the most beautiful Grand Prix cars of all time. With sponsorship from Goodyear Tire, in an era where IndyCar racing was dominated by Firestone, the goal of the T1G was to win both the American and European open-wheel championships. Known in the U.S. as All American Racers (AAR) and in Europe as Anglo American Racers, the team left their mark on history. To this day, Dan Gurney’s win at the Belgian Grand Prix remains the sole victory by an American driver in an American car in Formula One. Len Terry of Lotus designed the elegant form of the Eagle by following the winning form of Colin Chapman’s Lotus 38. Weslake contributed a high-revving 3.0 liter V-12 that made the Eagle’s beauty enough of a beast to compete with the top Ferrari and Honda V12s of the era."—Official description[1]
