"The F40 Competizione is basically an evolution of an evolution. When the 288 GTO Evolution was cancelled with the end of Group B racing, the F40 was the road-going product that succeeded it. However, the promising mechanicals of the car, and its lightweight construction, led Ferrari to consider racing the F40. They turned to their long-time constructor of competition cars, Michelotto, to convert the F40 into Competizione spec. From outside, the differences are subtle: the open headlights instead of pop-ups, the addition of several NACA ducts, and the carbon fiber spoilers. Underhood, revisions were also evolutionary rather than radical, but the result was certainly positive—the “tipo B” revision to the 3-liter twin turbocharged engine is good for 780 horsepower, courtesy of revised cams, new intercoolers, and a whole lot of boost. The positively massive output of the engine, rivaling F1 cars of the time, allows the F40 Competizione to reach 230 mph (given enough room). While the car competed with success in IMSA GT racing, most of the 19 Competiziones built never saw a track, and went right into the garages of well-heeled buyers. A shame, because the Competizione is one of the most ferocious Ferraris ever conceived."—Official description[1]
The 1989 Ferrari F40 Competizione - abbreviated as "Ferrari F40 C" - is a pre-tuned supercar by Ferrari.
It appears in Forza Motorsport 2 as part of the March Car Pack, and as standard in all subsequent Xbox 360 Motorsport titles, as well as Forza Horizon.
It returned to the series with Forza Motorsport 7 as a Showcase reward, and appears as standard in all subsequent main series titles.
Synopsis[]
The F40 Competizione is a non-sponsored and more powerful variant of the F40 LM race car, based on the Ferrari F40. 10 examples were built, with the first two dubbed as F40 LMs and the remaining 8 being F40 Competiziones, as Ferrari felt that the LM tag would be too restrictive.[2]
In 1996, the Ferrari F50 GT, which is based on the F40's successor, the Ferrari F50, was introduced as the F40 Competizione/LM's successor.
The Ferrari F40 Competizione's 2.9L twin-turbocharged V8 produces 691 hp (515 kW) and 526 ft·lb (713 N·m), albeit with revised cams, intercoolers, and more boost. Open headlights replace the pop-up headlights, and the addition of several NACA ducts and carbon fiber rear wings complete the new exterior. With fluids, the car weighs 2293 lb (1040 kg), which was changed to 2315 lb (1050 kg) in the Forza games.[2]
Performance[]
The F40 Competizione has a 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) time of 3.1 seconds, 0 to 100 mph (161 km/h) time of 6.5 seconds, and a top speed of 228 mph (367 km/h). The Forza Motorsport 7 rendition of the car has a faster 0 to 100 mph (161 km/h) time of 6.1 seconds, a 0.4 second reduction.

Trivia[]
- The F40 Competizione is a pre-tuned car in real life; however, it has an in-game classification of being a production car.
- In appearances prior to Forza Horizon 4, the F40 Competitzione was rated to produce 780 BHP instead of 691 BHP.
- It is featured in the Forzathon Weekly Challenge "Harder, Redder, Faster, Stronger" in Forza Horizon 4. The name is a reference to the song "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" by Daft Punk, highlighting the car's improvements and higher performance over the Ferrari F40.
