The 1951 Porsche #46 356 SL Gmünd Coupe - abbreviated as "Porsche 356 SL" - is a classic racer by Porsche.

It appears in Forza Horizon 4 as part of Update 13 and in Forza Horizon 5 as part of Series 26.

Synopsis[]

The #46 356 SL Gmünd Coupe is the race variant of the 1948 to 1950 Porsche 356 SL, short for "Super Light". It won the 1,100 cc class of the 1951 24 Hours of Le Mans, and was Porsche's first entry and victory at Le Mans.

The 356 SL was discontinued in 1950, when Porsche shifted production back to Stuttgart, Germany. Unlike the Gmünd cars, newer 356 models use steel bodies,[1] although they kept the split windshield of the former until 1952.

Drivetrain[]

The 356 SL road car was built in Gmünd, Austria, where Porsche moved in from Stuttgart, Germany in 1944 to avoid bombings during World War 2. It has a lightweight hand-beaten aluminum body and is powered by a 1,086 cc (1.1 liter) flat-four engine with 46 hp (34 kW). The #46 race model added wheel covers to decrease drag, a larger fuel tank and different gear ratios for competition.[2] Weighing only 1411 lb (640 kg), it is the lightest Porsche to appear in the Forza series.
