"The 906 was the last street legal racing car produced by Porsche. It succeeded the 904 and preceded (although not directly) the illustrious 917. It was a thing of beauty and reflected the ultra-low profiles of the era as seen in the Ford GTs and Ferrari Ps. The 906 was a successful race car, winning its class at the 24 Hours of Daytona, the 12 Hours of Sebring, Monza, and the Targa Florio. At the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans, where the Ford GTs made their historical 1-2-3 finish, the following four places were filled by 906s. Only 65 examples were produced to meet FIA homologation for Group 4 Sports Car racing, and they were modified to compete in Group 6 Sports Prototype. With its tubular space frame and unstressed hand-laid fiberglass body, the complete car weighed in at less than 1,300 pounds before adding fluids. The 1966 Porsche 906 Carrera 6 - abbreviated as "Porsche 906 '66" - is a rear-wheel drive sports car by Porsche.
It appears in Forza Motorsport 7 as part of the K1 Speed Car Pack, in Forza Horizon 4 with the Update 13 patch on August 28, 2019, and in Forza Horizon 5 as part of Series 28.
Synopsis[]
The 906 Carrera 6 is the successor to the 904 Carrera GTS that was developed under Ferdinand Piëch, whom would later be responsible for the 917.
It inherited the fiberglass body of the 904 with an improved drag coefficient of 0.35 thanks to wind tunnel testings. Unlike its predecessor, whose body was bonded onto a ladder-frame chassis with old adhesive bonding techniques that resulted in varying cases of rigidity,[1] the 906 returned to a tubular space frame with an unstressed body.
The drive uses the five-speed manual gearbox from the 911 and Type 901 flat-six engine with power increased to 210 hp (157 kW) at 8000 rpm.[2]
