"In its early days, Volkswagen naming conventions were nearly as elementary as its vehicle designs. The Type 1 was, of course, the phenomenal Beetle; the Type 2 the famed VW Bus. The Type 3 actually represented three models: the Fastback, the Squareback, and this classic three-box design, the Notchback. All were largely based on the body on chassis, rear-engine design of the famed Type 1 with some key differences. The flat-four cylinder in the Type 3 is known as the “pancake” engine due to its low profile that allowed for more luggage space. The front suspension incorporated transverse torsion bars and the motor and transaxle had their own subframe as well which delivered less interior vibration. Type 3s are getting harder and harder to find these days with the “Notch” being the rarest of all. Take a trip back in time in this capsule of Volkswagen innovation."
—Official description[1]

The 1967 Volkswagen Type 3 1600 L - abbreviated as "VW Notchback" - is a rear-wheel drive compact car by Volkswagen.

It appears in Forza Motorsport 7 as part of the Totino's Car Pack, and as a seasonal reward in Forza Horizon 4 since the Series 12 update.

Synopsis[]

The Volkswagen Type 3 is a larger upmarket variant of the Volkswagen Beetle that began production in 1961. It debuted as a two-door notchback car that was complemented by many body styles such as a two-door fastback and two-door "squareback" station wagon in the following production years. The notchback, which is featured in the Forza series, was made available to the European and Canadian market.[2] It was replaced in 1973 by the Volkswagen Passat.

Characterized by a ponton body, the Type 3 offers more interior space and luggage room than the Beetle, featuring a large trunk at both front and rear.[3] Its "Typ 126" air-cooled engine with 1584 cc (1.6 liter) displacement produces 65 hp (48 kW) that makes the Type 3 the most powerful air-cooled Volkswagen in the Forza series.
