The 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 is a muscle car that appears in Forza Horizon and all subsequent titles, as a replacement to the 2010 Shelby GT500. In Forza Horizon, a Rockstar Energy Edition version of the Shelby GT500 appears, while in Forza Motorsport 5, a Limited Collector Edition version appears as part of the Limited Edition release of that game.
The 2013 Shelby GT500 is a refreshed version of the 2010 Shelby GT500, with an updated exterior and a bigger, more powerful 5.8L supercharged V8 engine. It is the last high-performance variant of the fifth-generation (2005-2014) Mustang before its discontinuation in favor of the sixth-generation (2015-present) Mustang.
Description
"The phrase “mine’s bigger than yours” now carries more weight in the "bow ties versus blue ovals" battle. Following the Shelby tradition of creating some of the most desirable American muscle, the GT500 has incredible power, a sound better than music, and lines that scream “get outta’ my way!” Eleanor is back!"—forzamotorsport.net[1]
"Harkening back to the form of the infamous Eleanor, the new Mustang GT500 is classic muscle in a modern package. This is a production Mustang that will do more than 200 miles per hour straight off the showroom floor. Thanks to 662 supercharged V-8 ponies under the hood, at the time of its release it was the most powerful U.S. production engine ever. This kind of power may seem excessive, but it is relatively tame when driven with prudence and even achieves fair mileage figures. Obviously anyone who buys a GT500 is not looking for a little savings at the pump, its purpose is about what your right foot can accomplish. Less than 12 second quarter-mile times, 0-60 in 3.5 seconds and the exhilaration of so much force pushing you back in your seat you may have to enhance your workout just to hang on. Straight line fun may be its forte, but give the GT500 its due at any road course as well."—forzamotorsport.net[2]
Characteristics
The 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 features a DOHC 5.8L (5,811 cc; 354.6 cu in) 32-valve, supercharged V8 engine with a power output of 662 hp (494 kW) and a torque output of 631 ft·lb (856 N·m). The Shelby GT500 was made available from May 2012.
The 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 sports various improvements and differences compared to the 2010-2012 GT500, notably standard HID headlights, a new front metal sheet, LED taillights, and a lack of a grill due to the large amount of cooling required for the car. Among many performance changes include a revised Tremec TR-6060 six-speed manual transmission with an internal oil pump, twin fuel pumps, larger fuel injectors, and a one-piece carbon fiber driveshaft. Larger front brake discs made by Brembo with six-piston calipers, reinforced axle tubes, and aerodynamic modifications help the Shelby GT500 exceed 200 mph (322 km/h) safely.
With these specifications, the Ford Shelby GT500 is capable of 0-60 mph (97 km/h) within 3.5 seconds, sub-12 second quarter mile runs, and a top speed of 202 mph (325 km/h).
