"From its Victorian taxicab yellow to its limited run (only 85 models were ever produced), the GTSR is an HSV oddity. This GTSR is really a mockup of a race car that never existed, but where it fails in legitimate racing heritage it makes up for in glam. The specially-built V8 under the hood makes freight train-like power from idle to redline. This is one Aussie rarity that you may not have known how much you would appreciate until you get behind the wheel. In other words, hop in and hang on."—Official description[1]
The 1996 HSV GTSR is a rear-wheel drive sports sedan by HSV.
It appears in Forza Horizon 3 as part of the Logitech G Car Pack, as standard in Forza Motorsport 7 and Forza Motorsport (2023), and as part of Forza Horizon 4 with the release of the Series 25 Update.
Synopsis[]
With the popularity of the HDT VK Commodore Group A and Holden VL Commodore Group A SV, HSV was given permission from Holden to produce 85 "Group A" specification models of the VS Commodore. Though Group A had ended in 1993, the GTSR ended up as a road-going counterpart to a non-existent racecar. Regardless, the GTSR has become a HSV icon and is easily recognizeable from its eye-catching yellow color and its massive rear spoiler.
Based on the 1995-1997 Holden VS Commodore, the GTSR used a modified 5.7L 16-valve pushrod V8 engine, producing around 300 horsepower. This drivetrain was coupled to a 6-speed manual transmission with overdrive.
As only 85 units were ever produced, the GTSR regularly sells at high prices in auctions, with one model having fetched AU$350,000 in late 2020.[2]
