Revision as of 08:48, 29 May 2020
"The HQ Monaro is considered one of the most attractive body designs to ever come from Australian manufacturer Holden. American muscle car enthusiasts may even mistake the Monaro for a Pontiac GTO. While there may be similarities, the Monaro is unique to the island continent. As the moniker suggests, a GTS 350 has a 350-cubic-inch Chevrolet V8 under the hood. The HQ was something of a last gasp for the muscle car status the Monaro had attained. The HQ’s bold striping spoke to an aggressive nature that was all-too-short lived. In later years, Holden would de-emphasize performance, eliminate the availability of a manual transmission, and, eventually, discontinue the 350. Still, in its time, the GTS 350 was one of the kings of the Australian road."—Official description[1]
The 1973 Holden HQ Monaro GTS 350 - abbreviated as Holden Monaro - is a RWD muscle car by Holden that debuted in Forza Motorsport 6 as part of the Polo Red Car Pack, and is featured as standard in all subsequent main series titles.
It is available in Forza Horizon 3 as the sixth Barn Find.
Synopsis
Based on the HQ revision of the second generation Monaro, the GTS 350 was designated as the top-of-the-line model with a 350 ci (5.7 litre) V8 engine. It replaces the 1971 HG Monaro.
It is based on a somewhat front-heavy rear-wheel drive platform that weighs 3150 lb (1429 kg). With a 275 hp (205 kW) 5.7 litre V8 engine and four-speed manual transmission, it is able to reach 135 mph (217 km/h) as top speed.
Performance
The 5.7 litre V8 engine gives the GTS 350 decent acceleration, although it does suffer from a long fourth gear when going uphill. Due to its slow steering and sluggish suspension, the GTS 350 may prove to be a handful in corners.
Upgraded
With the S1 upgrade preset in Forza Horizon 3, the GTS 350 receives a significant power bump from a 6.2 litre V8 engine that produces 1014 hp (756 kW) and 841 ft·lb (1140 N·m) of torque. As a result, its rear tyres often become overwhelmed by the excessive torque output. Neverthless, the GTS 350 does feature strong grip performance that can only be achieved with proper throttle management.
The GTS 350 in Forza Horizon 3 reaches S1 as its maximum performance class with the auto-upgrade feature, but is able to reach S2 with conversion upgrades.
