"Dubbed the “Rambo Lambo”, the Lamborghini Military model 002 certainly looks the part. Sylvester Stallone even owned one of the 300 or so muscular models that were produced over seven years. So did Mike Tyson, Tina Turner, and a slew of Middle Eastern figures that have since been deposed. If its looks don’t give it away, this is a high-performance off-road vehicle. It has a tube steel frame, massive ground clearance, heavy-duty suspension, and tires so big they were specially designed by Pirelli. Under the massive hood is what you might expect, although it is an odd place to find the V12 from the Countach Quattrovalvole. Compression is slightly lower to accommodate the lesser fuels that might be put into its massive 76-gallon tank. The LM002 is a vehicle that was way ahead of its time. With a near eight second 0-60 time and top speeds on and off road of nearly 120 mph, you can tear up any surface in the lap of luxury."—Official description[1]
The 1986 Lamborghini LM 002 - abbreviated as "Lambo LM 002" - is an all-wheel drive off-roader by Lamborghini.
It appears in Forza Horizon 2 as part of the Top Gear Car Pack and as standard in all subsequent main series titles except Forza Motorsport (2023).
It appears as the second Barn Find in Forza Horizon 3.
Synopsis[]
In the 1980s, the Italian Army was searching for a new vehicle to be used as a general-purpose transport vehicle. Lamborghini decided to enter with the Cheetah[2], though this project soon fell through. Regardless, with the re-organization of the company in the early 1980s, it became clear the car had potential as a civilian vehicle. Revealed in 1982, production of the LM002 began in 1986[3].
Fitted with the same 5.1L L510 V12 engine found in the Lamborghini Countach, the LM002 was considered very fast for such a large vehicle. Additionally, the use of 345mm wide tires meant the car had an enormous amount of cornering grip not commonly found with such a vehicle.[4].
While the car enjoyed success in magazines and film, it proved extremely expensive to manufacture, and coupled with low sales, production stopped in 1993.
