Lola is a British racing car manufacturer featured in Forza Motorsport 6 and all subsequent main series titles.
Synopsis[]
Lola Cars was founded in 1958 by Eric Broadley and was based in Huntingdon, England. The company was noted as one of the top racing car chassis manufacturers in the 1960s and 1970s, supplying chassis to sports car racing as well as numerous Formula racing series, such as Formula Two and Formula Junior. One of their cars, the Mk 6 GT, would give rise to the highly successful Ford GT40 when Broadley merged his ideas with Roy Lunn's to create the highly successful racing car.
Lola also manufactured the T70, a series of sports cars intended for endurance racing featuring a fiberglass body powered by beefy American V8s. In addition to endurance racing, a notable racing series Lola had competed in was Formula One; the team was involved mainly as a subcontractor, designing and constructing cars for various entrants starting in 1962, but had resisted a "works" team effort for many years. The company finally gave in and partnered with MasterCard to create the MasterCard Lola Formula One Racing Team, which yielded no success, partly thanks to MasterCard's lofty demands and targets; a lack of funds and sponsors pulling out at the last minute (even including MasterCard itself) led the team to collapse after just one race: the 1997 Australian Grand Prix, the opening round of the 1997 Formula One World Championship.
The failure of the MasterCard Lola venture was financially draining, and by the 2000s the company was in financial ruin. After building a few more prototype racing cars, such as the B09/60, B09/86, B11/40 and B12/80, Lola entered financial administration on 16 May 2012. The company failed to find any suitable buyers, with the last employees laid off and the company closing on 5 October 2012. Some of the assets and intellectual property were later purchased by Multimatic and Haas Auto Inc., as well as obtaining a licensing agreement to the Lola name. While Multimatic did maintain and run some of Lola's B12/80s for the now-defunct SpeedSource team, no Lolas have been run in any major endurance racing categories in the United States since 2016.
