"Following the evolution of the BPR Global GT Series into the much more prominent FIA GT Championship, Lotus followed Porsche and Mercedes in developing a new GT1 car for competition. Against the likes of the McLaren F1 GTR, the Porsche 911 GT1, and the Mercedes CLK-GTR, the Elise-based GT1 faced a hearty and deep-pocketed grid. Lotus shelved the aging Esprit-based race car and built just one production model Elise GT1 to meet homologation requirements. While the Elise GT1 utilized the production aluminum chassis, the body was highly modified for improved aerodynamics. On the outside, a full carbon fiber body gave the GT1 a flowing form. The Elise’s inline-four was swapped out for a Type 918 Lotus 3.5-liter twin-turbo V8 mated to a Hewland six-speed sequential gearbox, although some teams opted for a 6.0-liter LT5 Chevrolet V8 and various other transmission options. Sadly, reliability proved to be a problem for all seven chassis that were built, with the best success being a fifth place at Helsinki. Nonetheless, experiencing the power and glory of this GT race car in Forza will deliver smiles that outshine its racing record."
—Official description[1]

The 1997 Lotus Elise GT1 is a mid-engine, rear-wheel drive supercar by Lotus.

It appears in Forza Motorsport 7 as part of the Totino's Car Pack and as standard in Forza Horizon 4 and Forza Horizon 5.

It can be discovered as a Barn Find in Forza Horizon 4.

Synopsis[]

The Elise GT1 is a GT1 race car that received only one production model to meet homologation requirements. However, it did not prove to be very successful in racing, usually being beaten by the likes of McLaren and Mercedes-Benz.[2]

The Elise GT1 was powered by a mid-mounted 3.5L (3,506 cc) Type 918 twin-turbocharged, intercooled V8 engine which made 350 hp (261 kW) and 295 ft·lb (400 N·m) in the road car and 542 hp (404 kW) in the race car. Two other engine options existed: a modified 6.0L Chevrolet LT5 twin-turbocharged V8 engine producing 607 hp (453 kW) at 7,200 rpm, and an 8.0L Chrysler/Dodge Viper V10 engine for the Bitter GT1 race car. Only factory cars had the LT5 V8 while customer cars had the Type 918 engine with the former proving to be more problematic.

Initially, the Elise GT1 used a Hewland six-speed sequential manual transmission, but multiple other transmissions were also used during its lifespan. With a weight of 2425 lb (1100 kg), the Elise GT1 had a power-to-weight ratio of 318 hp (237 kW) per tonne.[3]

Performance[]

The Elise GT1 is capable of 0 - 60 mph (97 km/h) in 4 seconds, 0 - 100 mph (161 km/h) in 9.6 seconds, and a top speed of 170 mph (274 km/h). Even with such performance figures, the Elise GT1 could not match the performance of the elite cars at Le Mans and would see a dreadful fate.[2]

The Lotus Elise GT1 is a handling-focused car that sticks to corners rather easily, especially with its adjustable downforce on both its front bumper and rear wing. Its handling and braking outclass many of the modern hypercars, even while being at a lower class. Its acceleration and top speed are more on par with low-end supercars, with acceleration to 100 mph (161 km/h) occurring in just 9.6 seconds and a top speed of 170 mph (274 km/h).

Due to being very handling-focused, it is actually one of the fastest Class S cars in Forza Motorsport 7. If tuned correctly, it also becomes one of the best-handling Class R cars in the game.
