The 1966 McLaren #4 Bruce McLaren Motor Racing M1B - abbreviated as "McLaren #4 M1B" - is a prototype race car by McLaren.

It appears in Forza Motorsport (2023).

Synopsis[]

The M1, short for "Mark 1", was developed by Bruce McLaren Motor Racing team for use in the North American Can-Am series and Group 7 series. The M1B version ran from 1965 to 1966 and was the team's first self-designed and developed sports car.[1]

Formed in 1963 by Bruce McLaren, the team developed the M1A as a replacement for the Zerek Special, a modified Cooper T53 Formula 1 car acquired in 1964 that proved to be competitive. Built by manufacturing company Elva, it featured a new chassis design and a Traco-Olds 4.5-liter V8 engine.

The M1B is an evolution of the M1A, featuring a stiffer revised chassis, a new body and a Chevrolet 5.4-liter V8 engine. It raced in the second half of the 1965 season and since 1966, in the Can-Am series.[2]

While not having much success since then, being outclassed by Lolas and Chaparrals, it paved the way for successful Can-Am cars, such as the M6A and the M8B.[3]

Paired to a Hewland L.G. 500 4-speed manual transmission, the Chevrolet V8 has an output of over 510 hp (380 kW) and 443 ft·lb (601 N·m) of torque.[4]
