"In the hard and unforgiving world of Formula One, no quarter is given and none taken without monumental will, bolstered by a little luck. The McLaren M2B represents the legendary racer’s first efforts in the highest level of racing. The Robin Herd-designed “Mallite” monocoque car debuted at Monaco in 1966 with an Indy Ford four-cam V8 (reduced from 4.2 to 3.0 liters) in the back. With its Hillborn fuel injection intake trumpets sticking out like gun turrets and “snake-pit” exhausts trailing out the rear, it had the look and sound of a winner. However, after nine laps, McLaren realized the motor was ill-suited for F1 racing, despite its ability to rattle the windows of Monte Carlo’s residents. Later versions of the car were powered by a Serenissima V8 designed by Count Volpi, taking McLaren to race finishes that earned the team their first F1 Constructors’ points."—Official description[1]
The 1966 McLaren M2B is a Formula One car by McLaren.
It appears in Forza Motorsport 6 and all subsequent Motorsport titles.
Synopsis[]
Driven by team founder Bruce McLaren, the M2B had a short Grand Prix career, entering six races and starting only four. It scored the team's first point at the British Grand Prix and two more points at the United States Grand Prix. The model used in the Forza series has a racing number of 2.
The M2B was succeeded by the M4B.
Drivetrain[]
The McLaren M2B uses a mid-engined, RWD monocoque design, with monocoques having been popularized by the 1962 Lotus 25. Powered by a Ford 3.0L (2,995 cc) V8 engine producing 300 hp (224 kW) and 221 ft·lb (300 N·m), the M2B used a five-speed ZF5 DS 25 manual gearbox driving the rear wheels.
