"This is the car that put Mitsubishi on the map for the tuning, racing, and enthusiast community. It’s the car that paved the way for the invasion of performance all-wheel drive cars from Japan, and the one proved that high performance wasn’t solely the domain of the more expensive sports cars. Under the signature offset hood bump is the legendary 4G63 engine, sporting all manner of technology and fed by a turbocharger to provide 210 horsepower. Of course, any import enthusiast will be drawn to all the options to tweak and tune the Eclipse to be the ultimate expression of practically any driving style. Whether it’s bone stock or heavily modified, the Eclipse provides something for everybody, and that’s just one reason why it was so successful."—Official description[1]
The 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX - abbreviated as "Eclipse GSX", "Eclipse '95"[2] or "Mit. Eclipse '95"[3] - is an all-wheel drive sport compact by Mitsubishi.
It appears in all Motorsport series titles, as well as in Forza Horizon 3 as part of the Mountain Dew Car Pack, in Forza Horizon 4 as part of the Mitsubishi Motors Car Pack and in Forza Horizon 5.
Synopsis[]
The Eclipse GSX was developed alongside the Eagle Talon TSi Turbo and Plymouth Laser as part of the Diamond-Star Motors (DSM) joint venture between Chrysler and Mitsubishi. Each model was targeted at the sport compact segment, and offered an AWD system by the Mitsubishi Galant VR-4 in place of the FWD drivetrain from lesser models. They were recognized by their hood bump, which provided clearance for the camshaft gears of the 4G63T, a turbocharged engine developed from the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution.
The 1995 Eclipse was the first model year of the second generation "2G" Mitsubishi Eclipse that ended production in 1999. A third generation model was launched in 2000 that featured radical styling and a greater focus on driving comfort.
Performance[]
The 4G63T engine of the GSX outputs 210 hp (157 kW) and 214 ft·lb (290 N·m), enabling a top speed of 155 mph (249 km/h) that puts it in the upper spectrum of 1990s sport compacts. Its AWD system also eliminates wheelspin commonly present on FWD cars with similar power levels of its vintage, although it also adds much to its high weight of 3199 lb (1451 kg).
Acceleration from a standstill is therefore modest at best, requiring 7 seconds to 60 mph (97 km/h), which makes the GSX hardly quicker than less powerful but also much lighter FWD cars such as the Honda CR-X SiR and Volkswagen Corrado VR6.
Variants[]
Fast & Furious Edition[]

- Main article: Mitsubishi Eclipse GS Fast & Furious Edition
The Eclipse GS Fast & Furious Edition is a modified front-wheel drive counterpart to the GSX that appears in the Fast & Furious Expansion Pack for Forza Horizon 2 and Fast & Furious Car Pack for Forza Motorsport 6. Its appearance was altered to resemble Brian O'Connor's car in the 2001 movie The Fast and the Furious.
