"In 1933, Reid Railton strapped a plane engine to the most rudimentary chassis he could, and the Napier-Railton was born. This missile on wheels broke all kinds of records in the few years after that, most notably the all-time lap record at the Brooklands oval in England, which it held until the oval was repurposed for military use at the onset of World War II. The Napier-Railton gets its name from its creator, Reid Railton, as well as its engine, a 24-liter W12 Napier airplane engine, the most powerful engine available at the time it was built. It’s a truly one-of-its-kind vehicle."—Official description[1]
The 1933 Napier Napier-Railton - abbreviated as "Napier-Railton" - is a vintage racer by Napier.
It appears in Forza Horizon 4 since the Update 20 patch and in Forza Horizon 5.
Synopsis[]
The Napier-Railton is an aircraft engine powered race car known for breaking world speed records, most notably on the historic Brooklands race track, where it ran 143 mph (230 km/h).
Drivetrain[]
The 24 liter Napier Lion engine uses twelve cylinders on three banks aligned in a W layout, hence creating the W12 configuration and using a triple exhaust system. This layout gave it shorter dimensions than contemporary V12 aircraft engines.
Boasting 564 hp (421 kW) and an imposing torque output of 1249 ft·lb (1693 N·m), the Napier-Railton is the most powerful pre-war car in the Forza series. Its engine is mated to a three-speed non-synchronous transmission.
Platform[]
The Napier-Railton has a riveted bare aluminum body similar to aircrafts. It uses leaf springs on both axles, with the rear notably using two sets of cantilever leaf springs on each wheel. As the front is not fitted with brakes, the car solely brakes with 16 inch rear drum brakes, which were replaced with disc brakes in the 1950s.[2]
Weighing 4518 lb (2049 kg), the Napier-Railton is one of the heaviest pre-war cars in the Forza series.
