"Here’s the car that started Nissan’s Pike Car line. A car that you could get and feel all warm and cozy: the 1987 Nissan BE1. Ever think about the good ol’ days? Designer Naoki Sakai did so too, so it turned in a retro design meant to compete with other car brands that were taking over the Japanese market. Meant to be used as an everyday car, Nissan used different materials to make the body of this car, including thermoplastic resin (that could resist small rock impacts), durasteel (mainly in the front), and ABS resin. Buyers of this car were picked by lottery, because, of course, who wouldn’t want to drive home in a car with that much face card?"—Official description[1]
The 1987 Nissan Be-1 - abbreviated as "Nissan Be-1 '87" - is a front-wheel drive retro car by Nissan.
It appears in Forza Horizon 5 as part of the Nissan Retro Rides Car Pack, which debuted in Series 46.
Synopsis[]
Unveiled at the 1985 Tokyo Motor Show, the Nissan Be-1 is a two-door notchback sedan and was the first "Pike Car" in the series, preceding the Nissan Pao, Nissan S-Cargo and Nissan Figaro[2].
Being part of the "Pike Car" series, the Be-1 was designed to be a fashionable city car with retro-inspired styling. Its styling took inspiration from cars like the Austin Mini, with its small bootlid and centrally mounted speedometer. The car features and optional sunroof, which is not shown in the Forza series.
Being based on the First generation Nissan Micra, the Be-1 is powered by the Micra's 1.0L I4 that produces 51 hp (38 kW) and 55 ft·lb (75 N·m) coupled to a 3-speed automatic transmission, with a 5-speed manual transmission being optional. Struts are employed up front and a four-link coil suspension system in the rear. Steering is rack and pinion, and the front brakes are ventilated disks while the rears are drum brakes.
10,000 units of the Be-1 were produced for the Japanese market from 1987-1988[3].
