"When Nissan wanted to race in Group A in 1987, 500 ‘Evolution’ models had to be produced to maintain Nissan’s ability to race. The manufacturer went on to produce more than 800 as the car’s popularity among enthusiasts was nearly as successful as its performance in Japanese and Australian touring car championships. This last of the R31 Skyline performance models contributed much to what would become the R32 GT-R. Under the hood is the RB20, referred to as the “red top,” for its red valve cover. A bigger turbo and a lightened flywheel gives the GTS-R its own sound. A unique Group A front and rear spoilers set off the timeless shape."—Official description[1]
The 1987 Nissan Skyline GTS-R (R31) - abbreviated as "Nissan GTS-R '87" - is a rear-wheel drive sports car by Nissan.
It appears in Forza Horizon 3 as part of the Rockstar Energy Car Pack and as standard in all subsequent main series titles.
Synopsis[]
The GTS-R R31 Skyline is the predecessor to the R32 Skyline such as the 1993 Skyline GT-R V-Spec, and succeeds the Nissan Skyline H/T 2000GT-R by two generations. The GTS-R in particular was introduced in 1987 as a special edition car with Group A specifications that was limited to 800 units.
The R31 series saw the first application of the Nissan RB inline-six engine that continued production with subsequent Skyline generations. The GTS-R uses a two liter variant with a double overhead camshaft (DOHC) valvetrain and single turbocharger that outputs 206 hp (154 kW) at 6400 rpm and 181 ft·lb (245 N·m) of torque at 4800 rpm.[2]
Using a front-engine, rear-wheel drive platform that weighs 2965 lb (1345 kg), the GTS-R is much lighter than subsequent GT-R models, although still heavier than the more compact Nissan Silvia range.
