"Only a car with the beautiful lines of the 1958 Plymouth Fury could have inspired the kind of obsession expressed in Stephen King’s “Christine.” While this Fury may not be possessed, this much chrome, this much tailfin, and a 305 hp Golden Commando V8 under the hood are worthy of close appreciation. Sure, this Fury is a huge hunk of glistening metal that is best driven in a straight line, and it may lack braking and turning performance, but who cares? The Fury is gorgeous and it represents an era where cars were designed to be alluring and gas prices were not an issue. Besides, once you feel the float of this boat going down a straightaway, winning may become less of a priority."—Official description[1]
The 1958 Plymouth Fury is a rear-wheel drive two-door hardtop full-size car by Plymouth.
It appears in Forza Motorsport 6 as part of the Mobil 1 Car Pack and all subsequent main series titles except Forza Motorsport (2023), with its addition to Forza Horizon 5 as part of Series 15.
Synopsis[]
Produced from 1955 to 1961 as a full-size car, the Fury has its name derived from the word "fury", which denotes a type of anger, inspired by the Furies from Ancient Greek and Ancient Roman mythology. The Fury also appears in popular culture as a central subject in the 1983 Stephen King horror novel Christine, which discusses a 1958 custom red and ivory Fury named Christine that appears in a frightening love triangle. This novel was later adapted into a movie.
For the 1958 and 1959 model years, the Plymouth Fury was introduced as Plymouth's second to the top model to replace The Belvedere at the top of the Plymouth lineup, with the Sport Fury as its top model.
One of the engine options for the 1958 Plymouth Fury was the 350 cubic inch (5.7L) Golden Commando V8 engine, producing 305 hp (227 kW) and 370 ft·lb (502 N·m). Power was sent to the rear wheels via a three-speed transmission. With a weight of 3595 lb (1631 kg), the Fury had a power-to-weight ratio of 187 hp (139 kW) per tonne.
Performance[]
The Fury is capable of 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) in 7 seconds and a top speed of 149 mph (240 km/h).
