The 1983 Porsche #11 John Fitzpatrick Racing 956 - abbreviated as "Porsche #11 956" - is a sports prototype by Porsche.

It appears in Forza Motorsport (2023) as part of the Car Pass since January 11, 2024.

Synopsis[]

The 956 is a sports prototype developed by Norbert Singer and built by Porsche to comply with the Group C category, at the time just introduced in 1982. It is a successor to the Porsche 936, which competed in the Group 6 category.

It made its competitive debut at the 1982 6 Hours of Silverstone, with the 956 achieving a 1-2-3 finish at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and a record time of 6:11.13 at the Nürburgring Nordschleife by Stefan Bellof during qualifying for the 1983 1000km of Nürburgring, which would only be surpassed 35 years later by Timo Bernhard in an unrestricted Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo in 2018.

It was upgraded to the 956B in 1984, and after safety concerns and IMSA GTP regulation changes, the 956 was replaced by the Porsche 962C.

With a chassis made of an aluminium monocoque in order to reduce weight and improve fuel efficiency, the 956 became one of the first Porsche cars to have ground effect aerodynamics with a specially shaped under-floor, increasing cornering speeds and producing three times as much downforce as the 917 LH, which raced a decade earlier.[1]

Powered by a Porsche Type-935 2.65-liter turbocharged flat-six engine paired to a 5-speed dual-clutch manual transmission, produces approximately 620 hp (462 kW) and 443 ft·lb (601 N·m) of torque and reaches a top speed of over 224 mph (360 km/h).[2]
