Synopsis[]
The 963 is a prototype designed by Porsche and built by Multimatic. It was developed to meet Le Mans Daytona h (LMDh) regulations in order to compete in the Hypercar and Grand Touring Prototype (GTP) classes of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and IMSA SportsCar Championship, respectively.
Revealed at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed, it had its race debut at the 2023 24 Hours of Daytona with Team Penske.
Its name and design are based on the Porsche 956 and 962 prototype racecars from the 1980s, and features a chassis derived from the LMP2 category.[1]
Powered by a 4.6-liter twin-turbocharged hybrid DOHC V8 engine, a development of the engine found in the Porsche 918 Spyder, a rear-mounted 67 hp (50 kW) Bosch MGU generator, and paired to an Xtrac 7-speed sequential manual transmission, the 963 delivers 671 hp (500 kW) and 487 ft·lb (660 N·m) of torque.[2]
