"The early 1980s were a challenging time for performance cars in the U.S. due to ever-increasing EPA regulations. So challenging, in fact, that the 911 Turbo -- known as the 930 in America -- was withheld from the U.S. and Japanese markets until 1986. The flared wheel arches and whale-tail were definitive characteristics of the 911 Turbo. Despite its evident turbo-lag, the 296 horsepower, air-cooled flat-six delivered aggressive performance and strong acceleration. Power was delivered through a four-speed, though a five-speed was available in the lesser, non-turbo Carrera. While 911’s have always been born -- perhaps blessed -- with oversteer, when coupled with the turbo-lag, the car could be more than a handful when accelerating through a corner. It’s hard to believe at this time some at Porsche considered letting the 928 replace the 911. Thanks to then-CEO Peter W. Schultz, the 911’s future was ensured and its legendary status continued."—Official description[1]
The 1982 Porsche 911 Turbo 3.3 - abbreviated as "911 Turbo '82" - is a rear-wheel drive sports car by Porsche.
It appears in Forza Motorsport (2005) and all Xbox 360 Motorsport titles.
It also appears in every Porsche Expansion for all subsequent titles and has been featured as standard again in the series since Forza Horizon 3 with the April 2017 update as a Forzathon reward.
Synopsis[]
The 911 Turbo 3.3, codenamed 930, is an updated variant of the original 911 Turbo and the fastest production car of the first generation Porsche 911. It first became available for the 1978 model year and was replaced by the 964 in 1990.
Visually, the 911 Turbo 3.3 differs from regular 911 models by having bigger fenders for wider tires and a large 'ducktail' rear spoiler with small vent openings that draw in more air to the engine.
The Turbo 3.3 has a flat-six powertrain mated to a four-speed manual transmission and is boosted by a turbocharger complemented by an intercooler. It offers 296 hp (221 kW) and 304 ft·lb (412 N·m) of torque.
Performance[]
The Turbo 3.3 can still keep up with modern sports cars when accelerating from a standstill, requiring 5.1 seconds for 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h), although its acceleration starts to wear off at higher speeds due to long gearing which is evident by a 0 to 100 mph (161 km/h) time of 12 seconds.
The rear-engine characteristic enables precise steering but also makes the rear more susceptible to oversteer.
