"What does it look like to take a vintage design 911 and reimagine it as the ultimate air-cooled Porsche? It looks like the DLS from Singer – the Dynamics and Lightweighting Study – one of the most sought-after 911s in existence. Singer, the automotive restoration group headed up by Rob Dickinson and based in Los Angeles, has developed a signature style that’s all about the smallest of details, as summed up by their slogan “Everything is important”. Those details make all the difference - a carbon fiber body, plus advanced 4-liter air-cooled engine that spins past 9000 rpm, codeveloped with Formula 1 tech courtesy of Williams Engineering. Williams is also responsible for developing the suspension and the reworked aerodynamics. The whole thing also received technical input from the mind behind the GT3 engine, Hans Mezger. The result of all the resources and detail work that went into creating the DLS is a production run of 75 cars, worth 1.8 million dollars each."—Official description[1]
The 1990 Porsche 911 reimagined by Singer - DLS - abbreviated as "Porsche 911 '90" - is a rear-wheel drive track toy by Singer and is based on the Porsche 964.
It has featured in Forza Horizon 4 since Update 29 and was included in Forza Horizon 5 as part of Series 10.
Synopsis[]
The Porsche 911 reimagined by Singer is the Singer DLS (Dynamics and Lightweighting Study), a resto-modded Porsche 911 of the 964 generation by the California-based automotive workshop Singer, who specializes in Porsche cars with air-cooled engines. The company's "reimagined" cars were designed by Williams Advanced Engineering to modern performance standards, while featuring design touches from classic 911 models for a unique look.
With more than 4000 hours of work spent on each car, the Singer DLS can cost from $500,000 to $1.8 million depending on the customer's specification.
Engine and drivetrain[]
The air-cooled flat-six engine was developed in consultancy by Hans Mezger, a prominent Porsche race car engineer. Extensively optimized to save weight and upgraded from a two-valve to four-valve cylinder head, the air-cooled flat-six engine with 3,942 cc (3.9 liter) displacement produces 493 hp (368 kW) and 317 ft·lb (430 N·m) of torque. Cooling and air intake capacities were increased by installing side-window air intakes and decklid vents.
Platform[]
Targeting a low weight, Singer 911 uses a carbon-fiber bodykit and a vast number of weight optimizations for the chassis including carbon ceramic Brembo brake discs.[2] As a result, it only weighs 2315 lb (1050 kg), making the Singer 911 one of the lightest cars in the Forza series and even lighter than the 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS.
The 964 body was redesigned with wide fenders, a ducktail wing and long hood of classic Porsche 911 cars, essentially turning the car into a modern widebody reimagination of the 1973 Carrera RSR, the race version of the aforementioned Carrera RS.
