"Conceived in collaboration with Volkswagen, the 914 was to be an economical sports car replacing the VW Karman [sic] Ghia and giving Porsche something to call entry-level. Most were produced with VW flat-four-cylinder motors and, in Europe, these were VW badged as well. Only 3,360 914/6’s [sic] were produced. The 2.0-liter, flat-six made significantly more (35) horsepower than the largest VW flat-four available in the other models. All had a five-speed transaxle. Porsche entered a 914/6 GT in the 1970 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race and it took its class and sixth overall; not too shabby for an entry-level sports car. The 914’s mid-engine, rear-wheel drive and near perfect weight balance make it a confidence-inspiring drive through corners. It’s also an endearing starting point for those wishing to own a Porsche, with a combination of fine performance and elegant aesthetics."—Official description[1]
The 1970 Porsche 914/6 is a mid-engined roadster by Porsche initially featured as standard in Forza Motorsport 2, Forza Motorsport 3 and Forza Motorsport 7 and in the Porsche Expansion add-ons for Forza Motorsport 4, Forza Horizon 2, and Forza Motorsport 6.
It was rewarded in Forza Horizon 3 in the Forzathon event Showtime! between August 22, 2017 and August 27, 2017 as a VIP reward.[2]
It also appears in Forza Horizon 4 as a 100% completion reward for the Series 7 Summer Season, as a seasonal championship reward in the Series 9 Winter Season, and as a seasonal playground games reward in the Series 18 Winter Season.
Synopsis
The 914/6 is the top-of-the-line model of the Porsche 914, a mid-engined targa top roadster designed as an entry-level model priced below the Porsche 911. To distinguish it from lesser models, the 914/6 is powered by a flat-six engine from the 1969 Porsche 911 T and was assembled by Porsche in Stuttgart as opposed to the four-cylinder models which were fully assembled by Karmann.[3]
The 914/6 started production in 1970 but was discontinued in 1973 due to poor sales. Since then, Porsche had not built a mid-engined road car with a six-cylinder engine until the introduction of the Porsche Boxster 23 years later.[4]
