"Radical Motorsport Ltd. was founded in 1996 by British club racers Mike Hyde and Phil Abbott, whose goal was to create a low-cost racing car by putting a superbike engine in a sports car. Their first car was named the Radical 1100 Clubsport. In January 2004, the company launched the Radical SR8 Supersport, which is powered by Radical's own V8 engine. Orders for ten cars were received before anyone had even seen the car. In the first year of production, the SR8 smashed the lap record around the Nürburgring Nordschleife, a record that it holds to this day. In 2006, Radical built its first Le Mans prototype. The first Radical Le Mans prototype finished the 24 Hours of Le Mans only months after the car was completed, and an AER-powered version finished in the points in 2008."
