|It’s no secret that Saleen’s creations are, for the most part, based on existing Ford models and then honed to perfection as trackday weapons. Saleen’s had a long time to perfect this art, and the S281’s unflappable handling (despite retaining the ancient rear live axle setup most other have abandoned) speaks to their mastery. No drag-only proposition, the S281 demolishes the skidpad and is perfectly content blasting through corners. It wouldn’t be a Saleen if there wasn’t some attention paid to the engine, and in this car’s case it’s the addition of a supercharger and intercooler that makes a huge difference in terms of available torque. The harder the S281 is pushed, the faster it wants to go, so the 0-60 mph numbers only tell part of the tale (although its 5 second run to 60 isn’t slow by any measure). Saleen’s body modifications also add aggression to the mustang’s lines, and a large 2.5-inch exhaust system makes all the right noises. It’s like a Mustang, but better.|
