"It’s no secret that Saleen’s creations are, for the most part, based on existing Ford models and then honed to perfection as trackday weapons. Saleen’s had a long time to perfect this art, and the S281’s unflappable handling (despite retaining the ancient rear live axle setup most other have abandoned) speaks to their mastery. No drag-only proposition, the S281 demolishes the skidpad and is perfectly content blasting through corners. It wouldn’t be a Saleen if there wasn’t some attention paid to the engine, and in this car’s case it’s the addition of a supercharger and intercooler that makes a huge difference in terms of available torque. The harder the S281 is pushed, the faster it wants to go, so the 0-60 mph numbers only tell part of the tale (although its 5 second run to 60 isn’t slow by any measure). The 2000 Saleen S281 (also known as Saleen Mustang S281) is a front-engined sports car that is featured in Forza Motorsport and all subsequent Xbox 360 Motorsport titles.
Synopsis
The S281 is a range of modified Ford Mustangs by Saleen, with the 2000 model being a derivate of the fourth generation Mustang.
Based on the Mustang GT, it has a 4.6 liter single overhead camshaft V8 engine with a roots-type supercharger that increases power to 365 hp (272 kW). Other notable upgrades include a full body kit, bespoke suspension, 18 inch wheels and close-ratio gearbox.[1]
