"This hooligan may be dressed down slightly from the 2007 WRX STi, but it still has menacing grip and enough turbo boxer-induced grunt to make even the most sedate owner turn into an instant raceboy. More than 300 horsepower in this little wagon and Subaru’s notoriously awesome all-wheel-drive system can make the WRX STi tractor-like in slippery conditions. An adjustable differential that directs power to the front or rear wheels also gives the STi versatility to carve corners or drift in four-wheel, tire-smoking glory. As with any Subie, there’s enough quirkiness to ensure your individuality remains intact while you destroy the more run-of-the-mill imports from Japan. Whether you are looking to run with the upscale European sports cars or beat up on American Muscle, the WRX STi is a ride with enough versatility, drivability, guts, and style to ensure the rear bumper is all the competition is accustomed to seeing."—Official description[1]
The 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX STI - abbreviated as "Subaru WRX '08" - is an all-wheel drive hot hatch by Subaru.
It appears in every main series title since Forza Motorsport 3, although it does not appear in Forza Horizon, and appears in Forza Motorsport 5 as part the Top Gear Car Pack.
It also appears in Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast & Furious as an A.I. opponent.
Synopsis[]
The 2008 WRX STI introduced the third model generation of the Subaru WRX STI. Unlike its sedan predecessors, the STI was initially only available as a hatchback to increase its appeal in the European market,[2] although a sedan variant did become available in 2011.
Unlike the Japanese spec 2004 STi and 2005 STi, the 2008 STI appears as the left-hand drive North American spec model in the Forza series. Therefore, it is powered by a 2.5 liter boxer engine instead of the 2.0 liter boxer engine from its predecessors and its Japanese market counterpart.
The 2008 WRX STI sits on a platform with a longer wheelbase than previous models that offers shorter overhangs on both ends. To further improve handling and ride, it also accomodates a wider track as characterized by its wide wheel arches, a double-wishbone rear suspension and a lower mounted boxer engine for a lower center of gravity. With an overall weight of 3395 lb (1540 kg), it is lighter than the 2005 STi and up to par with even the 2015 STI in that regard.
The turbocharged EJ257 flat-four engine produces 305 hp (227 kW) and 335 ft·lb (454 N·m) of torque[3] at a boost pressure of 14.7 psi (1,01 bar). Having a higher engine capacity than its predecessors, the 2008 STI offers more torque than its predecessors but still has a lower redline, which is 7400 rpm. In comparison, the 2005 STI redlines above 8000 rpm.
