"The long-awaited rear-wheel-drive sports car collaboration between Toyota and Subaru is as rewarding to drive as everyone hoped. The 200 horsepower boxer engine puts plenty of power to the rear wheels. The GT86 has a little more built-in driftability than its Subie cousin. Weight transfer to the rear end in the GT86 is marginally faster giving it a heavier tendency to wag its tail than the slightly more civil BRZ. This is splitting hairs, but the other differences between the two are purely cosmetic and come down to personal preference. The biggest difference you will see and feel in Forza Motorsport 5 is the GT86 is right-hand drive. Get both versions on track at the same time and see if you can call out the differences as they tear up the track, hitting their top speed of 140 MPH. Among entry-level sports cars the GT86 – and its brethren—deliver a punchy, attractive ride for not a lot of money. More importantly, they mark the return of a rear-wheel-drive car to their respective manufacturer’s line-ups."—Official description[1]
The 2013 Toyota GT86 - also referred to as "Toyota 86"[2] - is a rear-wheel drive sports car by Toyota.
It appears in Forza Motorsport 5 and all subsequent main series titles except Forza Motorsport 7 and Forza Motorsport (2023).
It appears in Forza Horizon 4 as part of Update 27.
Synopsis[]
The GT86 is part of a series of rear-wheel drive sports cars developed by Toyota and Subaru. The Toyota models are sold in different names depending on the market, with the GT86 being destined for the European market and the Scion FR-S being an North American market only model. The Subaru model is named the Subaru BRZ.
For the 2017 model year, the GT86 underwent a facelift.
The GT86 is based on a front-engine, rear-wheel drive platform that weighs 30 lb (14 kg) less than the BRZ and puts 55% of its weight on the front axle. Its 4U-GSE codenamed powerplant produces 197 hp (147 kW) and 151 ft·lb (205 N·m), which remain unchanged from the BRZ. The GT86 also comes with a six-speed manual or automatic torque converter transmission.
Performance[]
The GT86 achieves high cornering speeds with little hesitation but lacks somewhat in terms of speed. To get most out of the engine, it needs to be revved as high as possible to not lose against cars with stronger engines. The GT86 drives very similarly to the BRZ, although its small weight advantage does give it slightly better braking.
