"The Toyota Supra always towed a fine line between Japanese luxury and performance. It ticked all the boxes that JDM fans could list and it found fame and fortune on the big screen. At the heart of this beautiful, easily able to turn beast, is the JDM lover’s heartthrob, the 2JZ-GTE. It’s a motor that by itself is the stuff of legend and with a little massaging can readily generate tons of sonorous horsepower. What we have here is the top of the line model from the last year of production (in the U.S.). The fourth generation of the Supra was unmatched in appeal and resale values have soared. In an age where RWD luxury sport coupes from Japan are a dying breed, the Supra RZ lives on to stand tall against anything that dares to step to its considerable gait."—Official description[1]
The 1998 Toyota Supra RZ - abbreviated as "Toyota Supra '98" - is a rear-wheel drive sports car by Toyota.
It appears in all main series titles except Forza Motorsport 6: Apex and Forza Motorsport 7.
Synopsis[]
The Toyota Supra RZ was produced from 1993 to 2002 as part of the fourth generation Toyota Supra (JZA80). Replacing the 1992 Toyota Supra 2.0 GT Twin Turbo of the third generation Supra (GA70), the RZ was the performance model of its range.
The RZ was sold as a Japanese domestic market model from 1993 to 2002. Export models of the RZ received the Twin Turbo name instead.
After its discontinuation in 2002, the Supra name was relaunched in 2019 with the fifth generation Supra that was co-developed by BMW.
Platform[]
The A80 Supra ditches the boxy styling and pop-up headlights of its predecessor in favor of fixed headlights and a rounded body similar to the Toyota 2000GT. Designed with a greater focus on performance, it is also noticeably shorter and lower than the A70 Supra.[2]
The platform is a shortened variation of the Lexus SC300 that uses a front-engine, rear-wheel drive layout. It consists of a double wishbone front suspension and a multilink rear suspension for an improved ride and handling. In the RZ specification, weight is rated at 3329 lb (1510 kg).[3]
Drivetrain[]
The Supra RZ is powered by a three litre twin-turbocharged inline-six codenamed 2JZ-GTE and available as the "3.0L I6 - TT" engine swap in the Forza series. It produces 320 hp (239 kW) and 315 ft·lb (427 N·m) of torque, and is mated to a six-speed manual transmission by Getrag.
It utilises a sequential turbocharging setup that receives boost from the smaller turbocharger at lower rpms, and provides boost by the larger turbocharger at higher rpms. This allows the engine to deliver power across the power band more consistently and effectively minimize turbo lag.[4]
