"The original Time Machine from Back to the Future has arrived at the Horizon Festival! Lights and sounds similar to what you saw on the film will burst out of the car just when you hit 88 mph."
—Official description[1]

The 1981 Universal Studios Back to the Future Time Machine 1 - abbreviated as "BTTF 1 TM" - is a rear-wheel drive sports car and a custom variant of the DeLorean DMC-12.

It appears in Forza Horizon 5 as part of the Universal Icons Car Pack, which debuted with Series 35.

Synopsis[]

The Back to the Future Time Machine 1 - also called the "DeLorean Time Machine" - is a recreation of the car driven by Dr. Emmett "Doc" Brown and Marty McFly in the 1985 film Back to the Future. It is based on a 1981 DeLorean DMC-12.

In the film, the DeLorean Time Machine has the ability to time travel due to a "flux capacitor", a Y-shaped device capable of "breaking the time barrier" and causing a temporal displacement, resulting in time travel. Demanding high levels of energy, the flux capacitor is powered by a plutonium-fueled nuclear reactor, which needs to generate the 1.21 gigawatts of electricity necessary for temporal displacement while the vehicle reaches a speed of 88 mph (142 km/h).

For the movie, a hubcap from a Dodge Polara was fitted in the back to act as the base of the nuclear reactor, a custom speedometer was built since by law all American models of the DeLorean were limited to 85 mph (137 km/h), and aircraft parts and blinking lights were implemented for additional effects.[2]

The engine sounds were also changed to that of a Porsche V8 from a Porsche 928[3]. This effect is featured in Forza Horizon 5.

In Forza Horizon 5, to simulate the glowing effects generated when time traveling, the car was fitted with LED lights around the rear end and the front bumper that activate a blue light when the Time Machine hits 88 mph (142 km/h). It also features accurate target dates from the movie in the dashboard.

Mechanically identical to the standard DeLorean but with additional weight, it is fitted with a stock PRV 2.8-liter naturally-aspirated V6 engine, and paired to a 5-speed manual transmission, produces 130 hp (97 kW) and 160 ft·lb (217 N·m) of torque.
