"Complete with the new Mr. Fusion attachment, the second iteration of the Time Machine will also be available on the Universal Icons Car Pack. Just like the first Time Machine, this one will display unique effects once the classic 88 mph speed is met."—Official description[1]
The 1981 Universal Studios Back to the Future Time Machine 2 - abbreviated as "BTTF 2 TM" - is a rear-wheel drive sports car and a custom variant of the DeLorean DMC-12.
It appears in Forza Horizon 5 as part of the Universal Icons Car Pack, which debuted with Series 35.
Synopsis[]
The Back to the Future Time Machine 2 - also called the "DeLorean Time Machine" - is a recreation of the car driven by Dr. Emmett "Doc" Brown and Marty McFly in the 1985 film Back to the Future and its 1989 sequel Back to the Future Part II.
Essentially the same vehicle as the Time Machine 1, its main differential is the Mr. Fusion Home Energy Reactor device at the back, which replaces the plutonium nuclear reactor. In both films, the Mr. Fusion reactor converts household waste and garbage into power for the flux capacitor, presumably through cold fusion. It generates the required 1.21 gigawatts needed to time travel, bypassing the arduous requirements the plutonium-powered Time Machine needed.
Mr. Fusion also powers the vehicle's hover system, which allows the DeLorean to fly by lifting off the ground and folding its wheels.
For the films, the Mr. Fusion prop was made from a Krups "Coffina" model coffee grinder. It is considered a parody of Mr. Coffee machines.[2]
In Forza Horizon 5, just like the Time Machine 1, it features LED lights around the rear end and the front bumper that activate a blue light when the car hits 88 mph (142 km/h), simulating the glowing effects when time traveling.
